BitterBlaze Aerogel Glove

The Outdoor Research Bitterblaze Aerogel Glove gives innovative insulation to ensure solid warmth throughout winter. It uses Primaloft's best insulation available as well as Aerogel insulation in the palm to prevent cold spots overtime. Gore-Tex protects the insulation with ruggedly reliable waterproofing, and the tricot lining wicks moisture and breathes for a solid performance in springtime, too. Outdoor Research added protective overlays at the critical seams, and leather at the palm for a good grip on ski poles and the edge of snowboards.

Amazing, warm, ice climbing glove - BUT has durability issue

I've put two years of heavy Iceclimbing on these gloves including leading, belaying, and using them on the approach. These gloves are fantastically light and have a great dexterity. In terms of an overall Iceclimbing glove you can't ask for much more. My only issue is that the palms are made out of a very weak material for their intended use. The palms have suffered multiple small punctures from casual brushes with my ice crew rack. On top of that I noticed a seam coming undone. I will say all this is after 50+ days of use, but I've had cheaper gloves last for longer in the palm.

Nice fit and look but not as warm as advertised

I bought these gloves for outdoor hikes, snowshoeing and snow shoveling. The first real test was yesterday during a snow storm I shoveled my daughter's driveway at 25 degrees with a 25 mile per hour wind making it feel 15 F. My fingers were getting cold after 15 minutes. Also, I noticed a powdery white substance was coming out of the inside like a talcum powder. It felt kind of waxy and was hard to wash it off my hands. I returned them today to my local retailer where I bought them. Disappointing.

Awesome

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is my go to glove for when weather gets bad. Fit is spot on. I have worn them in rainy ski conditions and was perfectly dry. I have worn them into the high single digits, and was warm to the tips of my fingers. 1 negative they should come with leashes. Highly recommend

Not worth the price

No warmer than gloves costing a fraction of the price.

Great for ski touring

I've been using my BitterBlaze gloves for mainly ski touring and some resort skiing since Dec 2018 & they've been great. Warm in really cold conditions. I just used them for a 5 day hut trip in the Tetons when the daytime high was around 10-15 deg F. I make sure to secure my jacket sleeve over the glove to keep my wrists protected and my hands remained warm all day. I did start to chill some when exposed in windy areas but i didn't have to switch to my backup mittens. The chill would go away as i warmed on the next hike. On a cold and windless day i have no chill issues. The sticky palm is quite grippy too. Dexterity is good. I'm even able to do some simple tapping on my Samsung phone screen with them (with high screen sensitivity turned on). No problems with durability.

I wouldn't recommend these gloves to anyone

This product began to leak the white powder substance after 2 uses in the cold. Only used the gloves to assist on a cold day changing pin/ hole locations on a golf course. White powder I believe is dried aerogel which dries out the hands insanely quick and make the gloves almost impossible to get on. Even when the strap is completely undone the cuffs are tight. Aerogel insert only covers small portion on glove. High price point. Zero durability.

Warm and comfortable fit

I've been using these for a little over 3 months now in below freezing temperatures and so far they've been great as a mid layer glove. I've been able to comfortably wear the glove as a standalone down to around 20 degrees. Durability seems to be good and the waterproofing seems solid so far!

Disappointed

Seems to run slightly small, size large just barely fit while my other OR gloves are a medium. Very warm for snowshoeing, winter hiking, and things like running the snow blower. Temps ranged from 10-30F and they were pretty nice for that range. Unfortunately about a month and a half one of the gloves started leaking a white chalky/sticky powder on my hand making the gloves unusable. Sent them back for a refund and it looks like I'll have to eat the cost of shipping back to OR but I am still waiting to see what they are going to do.
