Arete Glove

The Outdoor Research Arete Glove uses a versatile layering concept to provide the appropriate level of hand protection in varying conditions. When conditions are frigid or foul, the nylon shell with a waterproof, windproof, and breathable Gore-Tex membrane protects against moisture and windchill, and the polyester fleece liner provides insulating warmth and moisture-wicking comfort.

If conditions are less extreme or you're working up a sweat, wear the removable fleece liner by itself with the silicone palm providing a sure grip on poles and tools. The shell features a pre-curved construction which facilitates a more ergonomic fit and freer movement, and the gauntlet closure system makes it quick and easy to cinch down or pull open the cuff. It's no fun to have overly clammy hands or frozen fingers, and this versatile glove makes it easy to customize your level of protection for optimal comfort.

Trash

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sizing is totally off, followed the sizing chart, but the gloves were at least one size too small from what the chart says, and the kicker is I had to pay for return shipping for the misrepresentation of their product:(

Great waterproof glove - but sizing is quite small

Bought a size L based on the sizing chart and measurements, but with the liner in place these gloves are quite (unusably) snug. However, this means that without the liner they are a perfect fit, and to my pleasant surprise they are lightly lined on their own. Between the Gore-Tex, the water-resistant shell and the very-well designed cinchable gauntlet, these gloves are perfect for warm, wet snow conditions.

Size chart lies

The sizing chart lies. Measured per the chart, bought Large size (men's), can't even get my hand in them. They fit my wife. Oh joy, she has another pair of gloves, I have none and they're sold out of XL. Probably the last time I buy from OR!

Ultra Durable, Waterproof, Dexterous, Perfect for PNW temps

My favorite glove. Very Durable and completely waterproof. Not the warmest, but that is the tradeoff you make for excellent dexterity. Only downside is the included liners are trash. Swap them for a thin wool liner immediately.

Great gloves - change liners

The liner gloves could be better. My suggestion is ditch the liner gloves for something different. The shell is nice. Kept fingers warm in below 30 degree weather with high winds.

XL is WAY too small

I've got medium/large hands. The XL was WAY too small. Back they go. (The men's Revolution Sensor XL gloves fit perfectly.)

rock solid gloves

I was recently issued these gloves for use during cold weather operations and ice rescue/Search and rescue. These are hands down the best cold weather gloves I have ever used or worn. The liner is still warm on its own during active use down to the 20s, and I can still take the shell glove off and utilize touch screens and radios when I need to. With the shell on, I still have enough dexterity to accomplish tasks I've otherwise struggled with while wearing other gloves. Durability is great, winter ice rescue operations on the Great Lakes tend to tear things apart over time and these have held up to some tough tasks. The only minor annoyance is the wrist lanyard can get in the way if you don't wear it, but it saves me from losing gloves or having to stuff them in a pocket so I don't lose them. All in all, great piece of gear.

Very Solid Glove.

This glove is exceedingly warm, yet easy to work with. I like the removable liners on warmer days, where I can do close work ( like use my phone) with the e-touch enabled liners.
