Haul it all.

You're the type of commuter that's a biker and, out of necessity, a walker (maybe even a sprinter when that meeting is in five minutes). Panniers just don't do it for you, and you need a lot of space, but you want a backpack that's comfortable and can keep your stuff organized. Step in the Osprey Radial 34 Backpack. When you're commuting on your bike, the Airspeed backpanel and perforated EVA foam harness keeps your shoulders cool while you're pedaling with a loaded pack. The Lightwire framing system gives this pack some backbone for a more comfortable fit. If you're riding over road rubble, the removable nylon waist belt adjusts via the modified ErgoPull system to supplement pack stability.

A top-access, dual-zippered tech compartment stores your laptop and tablet in separate padded sleeves. The main compartment offers document sleeves for lab reports or EBIDTA spreadsheets as well as mesh organizers for your calculator, gum, erasers, and pencils. The LidLock helmet clip holds your helmet when you're not on the bike, and a discrete compartment holds your U-lock when you're in transit. Both the pack and the integrated rain cover have blinker light attachment tabs and a bit of reflective material. Regardless of the weather, clip on your favorite flashing light so motorists have a chance of seeing you.

  • Daypack for light-and-fast bike commuters who need extra space
  • Well-ventilated Airspeed back panel and shoulder straps
  • Webbing waist belt with kickstand to keep the pack upright
  • Integrated rain cover and helmet carry with LidLock security
  • Padded sleeves protect laptop, tablet, and electronics
  • Front panel shove-it pocket for U-locks
  • Front attachment for blinker lights

Looking for a backpack for a small 9th grade girl who bikes to school. Needs a large pack for books, sports gear/shoes, lunch, water bottle, etc. Would this fit in a standard school locker? Would this be too big for her? (5 ft tall).

Best Answer

Hi Paula - sorry for the delay. This will not fit her well. Look at the Osprey Nova or Celeste for her. Thank you for the question!

Best backpack I've ever owned

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

And I've owned a ton of different types of backpacks. I don't usually submit product reviews but this is a fantastic product. I frequently cycle 30 miles round trip to work, and I purchased this after several years of using a camelback pack. The radial 34 is a game changer for me. Many, many examples of forethought into what makes a good cycle commuter backpack. Plenty of spacy separate main pockets for papers and for laptop/tablet, and separate smaller pockets for seemingly everything else. Soft pocket for glasses. Medium pocket for spare tube and tools. Lots of room for work clothes and a towel (I take a small terry cloth towel for shower at work). Ventilated back and "springy" waist belt make it very comfy. AND THE AWESOME POCKETS MADE FOR YOUR SHOES! That's an enormous help. The list of helpful features - it even stands upright on its own - goes on and on. Extremely light and comfortable. I highly highly rec. If you are torn between the two sizes get the 34.

David! Thank you for the killer review. My favorite part about the pack is that is STANDS UP when you need to get stuff out of it! Way to go, Osprey!! It's called the "Kickstand." Clever, eh?

Enjoy your many miles with the Radial 34!
