Why We Like The Swisswool Piz Palu Jacket

The Ortovox Women's Swisswool Piz Palu Jacket makes a magnificent midlayer especially for backcountry touring. It combines two of Ortovox's most athletically charged insulators. SwissWool Light Tec insulation provides incredibly lofty warmth that manages moisture to stay dry in snowy conditions, and Merino NatureTec Light insulation adds abrasion-resistance to the shoulders for backpacking. The merino wool lining enhances thermal regulation, moisture management, and odor control. Ortovox designed this jacket with a storm hood that adjusts for secure coverage on snowy skintracks.

Agree, strangely big in the torso

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I got this jacket at a steal (great price). Very grateful for that. I've been eying Ortovox for years but was unable to justify the full prices. I've been trying out winter running jackets for years and couldn't find the right one. I was looking for hooded, and sufficiently warm in all the right places (some winter jackets have no sleeve insulation), and windproof. This will definitely meet those requirements. It's a gorgeous, functional, high quality jacket. But it is like maternity wear. It's not that it's for broader/varied girths (which I am all for), but it's oddly puffy only in the center stomach area and sort of the same in the middle lower back. I'd size down, if available (it's not) but the shoulders, upper chest, upper back, and length are perfect. The sleeves are also a little long and too wide near the elbow, but that's ok. I may take it to a tailor for taking in in the middle a bit (or seriously, wear a belt?). Otherwise, it's gonna swoosh around in the middle.

My all-time favorite!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I absolutely love this jacket. In fact, I love it so much I bought a second one. I’m not sure I agree with the last comment about the sizing running big. I’m 5’2 and around 120 lbs and I have one in XS and one in small. The XS fits perfectly with minimal layers underneath and I use it mainly for spring ski mountaineering while the small is perfect for layering in colder weather. I feel like the fit is very flattering and I love that the hood is large enough to fit over a helmet. I’m always getting compliments on this jacket.

runs big

Im 5'7" and it fits big. 130 lbs. Small probably would have fit better. The shoulders are fine, but the mid section fits like a mens with no tailoring.
