Omega PacificOval Straightgate Carabiner

Round and proud.

The Omega Pacific Oval Straightgate Carabiner boasts strength ratings unusually high for its type thanks to an exclusive cold-forging process. Omega Pacific used this unique process to compensate for load distribution throughout the oval shape, and give the Oval Straightgate a whopping major axis rating of 22kN as well as a minor axis rating of 8kn. Take into account that this burly ‘biner weighs in at just 65 grams, and you may have found elliptical love.

Theyre alright

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I picked up a couple to build top ropes or to bail off of, so I didnt really have a high expectation for these. The gate retraction of the biner is a bit disappointing, and doesnt feel as smooth as other biners I have used. But all in all they are good for the price.

Great Biner for the River

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this carabiner for anything river related. I can keep all my gear tied together on a rope and one of these or just keep things clipped into my boat. Not the best if you are worries about weight.

Heavy but good

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Cheap, but heavy. I actually picked this one up many years ago at my local shop for a chalk bag since it was half price. 22kN rating is quite high, overkill for the chalkbag, but stronger than BD's standard Oval style by 4kN. I'd feel comfortable towing my car with this...

all-purpose oval

Great connector for rafts, sleds, roof racks, hammocks, bear bags, etc.

My go to biner for rafting

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm a whitewater river guide and this is my go to all around carabiner for rafting. They are less expensive but very strong. The weight is not an issue on the river, but I don't use them climbing because they are a bit heavy. They hold up pretty well, especially considering they are buried in sand every night on my sand stake. All in all, I like them because they are strong and inexpensive! :)

Decent biner

These are heavy, but great biners to use for running rope at the chains for friends on top-rope. Just reverse the gates, use two and they're super durable, and look super trustworthy for beginner friends.
