Carry it all with the feature-laden Oakley Kitchen Sink Pack.
Oakley combined all the best features from their individual backpacks for the Kitchen Sink Pack. This bag gets its name from the one item you might not be able to carry inside it. A compression molded top pocket protects valuables like sunglasses and small electronics and features a headphone port for media players. Throw your cell in the dedicated phone pocket and rest assured knowing your 17-inch computer is safe in the padded laptop sleeve. The interior organizer keeps things from getting chaotic inside the Kitchen Sink Pack. A self-draining, waterproof compartment is ideal for wet board shorts or gym gear, and a plethora of exterior pockets and tie downs take care of the rest.
- Q & A
Big, heavy and full of room
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I purchased this as my everyday backpack for commuting back and forth to work but also as a means for brief travel. As others have described this is a fairly heavy backpack, even when empty. There are tons of storage pockets for a variety of laptop cords, business cards, office supplies and a computer. I especially like the cell phone pocket on the top which is quite large. When going thru security at the airport I can put my wallet, cell phone, car keys and watch in the top pocket with room to spare. The side zip pocket in the back allows for each inserting and removal of my laptop, notebook and iPad. So far the backpack has been durable with no rips, tears or breaking of zippers.
I especially like the pocket at the bottom of the backpack which allows me to pack my clothes for trips while still leaving room in the top pocket to put other supplies.
Given the weight of the backpack, when I am traveling and the pack is fairly full, it is pretty heavy when hanging off of one shoulder. There is a removable waist belt that comes with the pack which would assist if I use the pack for day hikes.
Overall, very satisfied with the purchase with the only concern being the weight.
Urban assault vehicle - for urban...
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I bought this pack for travel, and because I've had a 17" laptop and it's difficult to find bags for them.
The pack is a strong pack - with storage pockets on the side. You also have the ability to "lock" the zipper pulls since they're a cable. The aluminum carrying handle is great, however I find myself wondering if I over-fill the bag, will it pull off.
The side pockets have velcro to strap a bottle to it if you wish - however I've found myself scrambling to grab a bottle that slid out of the velcro in the airport many of times, and now just don't bother.
It's a large pack, but also is heavy. I hiked a 14er in Colorado with it, loaded with food, clothes, etc. It worked great - but by the end of the day, my shoulders thanked me for it. My girlfriend used my Oakley Bathroom sink pack, and I'll comment on that one later - but suffice to say, I was the pack horse for the trip. Sure, it's handy to have side pockets for organization - but it was heavy to lift.
Works good on a plane - fits as a carry on but you may have to stuff it under a seat pretty firm to get it out of the walk way.
old model vs new ?
My husband has this backpack but it is a few years old. He LOVES IT !!! The only problem is that he recently purchased a 17' Macbook Pro and he says it doesn't fit. I was wondering if a "newer " version of this backpack will actually fit his new laptop. Please help !!! I really want to surprise him with it. Thank you :-)
Good for everything!
I love this backpack. It has a pocket for everything you can imagine. It is made of super heavy material that will last for ever. Everyone should own of of these!
Not a bad looking backpack.
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
I returned this item because the zipper loop broke off the first time I opened it. I really liked the look of it and it could fit a kitchen sink, but I was very disappointed that something that cost so much broke in the first few minutes.

The Oakey kitchen sink is a "Poseur Pack", an urban backpack intended more for show than for hard work. Its fine for carrying a laptop and schoolbooks off the bus and into class, but it isn't an outdoors pack.
I have one (my wife bought it me as a present). I used it last year to do 58,000 miles traveling for work in 3rd world countries. It will fit as onboard luggage on intentional flights, and it is well made.
But I wouldn't like to hump it in the bush. It isn't particularly waterproof, its hard to put a waterproof cover on because of the metal junk, it weights too much (again the metal junk) and its not a good design. The cover flap falls back over the laptop, covering the main and secondary compartments. This makes getting anything out a hassle unless its a major "de-pack". Also its only 30L despite its size. Don't believe the "everything plus the kitchen sink" hype. It soon gets full. And its way too expensive for what it is.
On the other hand it impresses schoolkids.... The metal junk make it look very urban warrior.
I spend a lot of time in the military, and even more hiking and climbing. I have had more than my fair share of packs on my back - some good and some bad. I have a good 55L tan military MOLLE pack that I use these days for bush walking. I would have taken it with me on my third world work trips, but advertising yourself as ex military isn't a good idea in some places. It leads to lead poisoning. I took the Oakey instead.
There are far better packs, available far cheaper.

Nice Bag, few gripes
I've had this bag for several years now. I bought it on a whim at the Oakley store and for the most part I've been happy with it. It's very high quality, as you would expect from Oakley, and has weathered several multi-country excursions. My one grip is that I don't find all the metal parts on the outside to be very functional. They look cool, but generally they just weigh the bag down. I can fit a huge laptop in the bag and enough clothes/shoes to last several days. The top part is great for carrying items like a cell phone and sunglasses. The dry bag on the bottom is also nice for carrying wet clothes/shoes in. Overall I'm happy with the bag and I get a lot of compliments on it, but the metal straps and components on the outside have been more of a nuisance than functional. I've scratched my car & motorcycle on more than one occasion throwing this bag around.

Is this bag still small enough to bring on board an airplane? If it is full, will it fit in the overhead compartment?
According to Oakley the dimensions are 14" H x 20" W x 8" D which are inside the generally allowable 14x22x9 requirements. Some smaller planes have different requirements but you should be fine 99% of the time.
Yes. I travel frequently for work and I take this as my primary carry-on most trips.

can it fit 20 sets of keys on the outside?
Yes, and four iPhones as well.
And a huge TI-83 calculator. This got me through my graduate program :-)
So far, a great product. I bought it to fit a Dell M6400 Precision 17" laptop (dimensions: 15.4 x 11 x 1.35). While other websites state that this bag will not hold a laptop this size, It does using the main compartment entry and it seems to be close to max. However, this precludes using the side laptop compartment entry. That is made for a smaller laptop (only reason I gave it 4 vs. 5 stars). the side compartments fit the oversized power adapter for this laptop perfect. More importantly is the comfort. With that heavy laptop even using just one shoulder strap it fits comfortably over your shoulder and back, evenly distributing the weight, and doesn't want to slip off when you move around. One of the most comfortable backpacks I have ever owned. Thanks Oakley for a great product (but make the side laptop entry bigger) and thanks Backcountry.com for the great price and service.

How well does this bag repel water? I have...
How well does this bag repel water? I have an Oakley Icon backpack and love it except for the fact that it's made mostly with mesh material and doesn't protect against the elements.
This is nylon so it will definitely do better than your previous bag. However it does not have a waterproof coating, so after a decent amount of time in the rain or other elements it will start to soak through.
Keep in mind, this bag does have a Wet Bag on the bottom that should be pretty protective should you need it.
I love this backpack. My husband and I ride motorcycles, It hold everything When we hike it has so many compartments that hold everything, and the silver brackets on the front hold every key alive.
I have even attached my water bottle for easy access. It hold sso much that I put my clothes in for the next day so its the only thing I need to bring in the hotel at night. It does a great job protecting my cell phone on top!! Men, buy it for women. Women just buy it , especially if you love compartments. I would recommend it to everyone.

What kind of warranty does the Oakley Kitchen Sink Backpack have?Thank you.
If you buy from Backcountry, it's lifetime.
If you buy it from an Oakely Retail store, you can return it at any time if you have anything break and they will give you a new one if they can't fix it.
One of the chest fasteners popped off and I took it into a store and they handed me a new one off the shelf.
A+ Customer Service.
And I love this bag and get compliments almost everytime I carry it. Worth the $ for customer service in my eyes.
