Great all around shoe
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I had ridden the “standard” type SPD MTB shoe for years (think SIDI Dominator or Specialized Comps) and was pretty unbothered by the duck foot and semi exposed cleats they had. And the soles had to be stiff as planks, right? Well, at some point the reality of my riding became significantly different than my racing dreams. I wanted something that I could actually walk in, that didn’t look like I was trying to hard to show legitimacy, and that would comfortably fit my fat flippers with either thin summer socks or thick woolies. Northwave has always had a rep for being fat foot friendly, and these seemed to meet all my other requirements as well...recessed cleat, not too flashy yet still a quality riding shoe. They have exceeded my expectations. The sole is stiff enough that you don’t feel like you’re losing any power, but forgiving enough that you can actually walk comfortably in them. They are plenty wide for my size 12 feet to expand in. And the Northwave take on the BOA system is miles ahead of the real thing, one little slider releases the ratcheting system and you use an index finger to loosen the strap. Sooo much better than BOA. I took a chance on them as there isn’t a dealer anywhere near me and they fit true to size. Super comfy and exactly what I was looking for..
