Nice relaxed fit!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Meduim

Great relaxed fit for playing in the snow! I needed an extra warm layer to play outside even if the high temp for the day is ZERO. I actually love being outside in the winter if I’m dressed appropriately and these are the real deal. Comfortable enough for cross country skiing. They have a few snaps on the bottom cuffs so you can get a snug fit with any kind of boot. Best overall fit ever.....even if you want to wear jeans with them.
.......and let me just say you guys are awesome to work with. With a good old fashioned phone call I bought and returned until I found what I was looking for and paid nothing for shipping or returns!

Very Satisfied

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

A mountaineering/climbing friend recommended these to me. They are super flexible, comfortable, and love the pocket sizes and placement. I tend to get colder than most people, and was warm, dry and comfortable in these without a base layer, but would have room to add them in colder temperatures. I would recommend the company to reconsider would be the Velcro waist adjustments, because a few snap options would likely hold better. Would be awesome if they also had a full side zip like some of the other models, but breathable enough/regulated temperature well, so not a deal-breaker.

Awesome quality!

I wear them to hike, climb and snowshoe in Washington, and they are great. These pants are comfortable, the fabric is durable and waterproof, and has a great fit/shape (compared to Outdoor Research's Cirque pants, that have a somewhat odd fit ) . Also, I appreciate the support that I received from Backcountry through Michael Corey. He guided me through this decision and that was super helpful. Thanks, Mike! Overall, I totally recommend these pants to anyone that wants to do some serious hiking and alpine climbing.

I purchased the pink in medium about a year ago and used them for ice climbing as an outer layer all winter plus some scrambling this summer. They are overall durable, fashionable and comfortable. The pockets are extremely functional for phones, credit cards, keys, etc. I haven't found a good use for the one at the back yet...

The only issue for me is that I'm a bit shorter, so they run on the long side for me. I bought the medium so I could wear a base layer underneath, but I can wear them without one as well. I prefer them as an outer layer since they are fairly heavy and don't feel as nice against the skin as a yoga pant or tight. The length works best on me with mountaineering boots vs hiking boots or approach shoes.

Detailed critiquing aside, I bought the turquoise as a second pair because I love this pant so much. The colours make me more visible as well. Well designed and comfortable, I highly recommend this as a similar product to the Patagonia Guide Pant with a bit more colour.

Super comfortable

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

Purchased these for my wife and she loved these from the first time she wore them. Said they are comfortable and feel great with or without a base layer. These kept her warm on winter hikes and snowshoe outings. Other reviews mention to size down, she is normally a medium, purchased a small and they were too tight. Returned for a medium which fit great.
She is 5'5", 140 lbs muscular build.

Love them

The fit is great. I ordered a medium, but might have been able to get a small. I'm 5'4" 145 pounds. They do run big, but it worked out once I had a couple base layers underneath. I wore them to climb Mt. Hood and they were really comfortable, did a great job of staying dry, and didn't fall down.

Can't take them off! Great fabric, great fit.

Don't take your usual size. Use the size guide because the Scandinavians girls are big....! I usually wear a M, but used the size chart and needed a S. Worked perfect.

      Really nice, but....

Too short for a tall girl :((

Waist is huge, but pants are great

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I'm a 5'10, size 8-10, 145lbs, medium-to-trim frame, women's pants reviewer. I bought the Women's Large Svalbard softshell because the Mediums were too tight in the leg for bending and stepping up. The waist at EITHER an M or L is so huge I can barely keep them up with a belt. Yes, they have adjustable velcro belt straps on the sides, which would be more helpful if there wasn't literally a foot of extra space to take up between my waist and the pant. I have normal, strong but thin, skier-sized legs, and all the waists of the technical brand pants are huge on me. Many other women in my age group (30's) are frustrated with the same thing, so designers, ***PLEASE STOP MAKING PANTS WITH WAISTS THAT COME STRAIGHT UP FROM THE WIDEST PART OF THE SEAT!!! (Outdoor Research, you are doing a better job than most, this year.) *** Another slight annoyance is that there are gaiter hooks at the bottom of the pants legs, so when I pull up the leg to adjust something, the hooks catch on my boot buckles and I have to de-glove to untangle them. I'd prefer those be removable. Zipped pockets are adequately roomy and pretty well-placed. Pants material is burly and I get lots of compliments on color (blue) from friends. Length is awesome - and I normally feel like everything is short. My overall impression is that these are really high-quality pants, good for most touring and inbounds, Rockies cold or Seattle cold; however, I can't wear these without a burly belt and pleats down the top half of my leg from the giant waist. For those of you around my size, also try these in M or try Outdoor Research's pants in size M - they seem to be making their women's legs a little bit roomier for the waist size this season than other manufacturers.

Love this pant... getting it in every color

This pant is amazing for xcountry skiing. I plan to take them trekking in Nepal this year. Not too heavy, just right. I am 5'8" and a true size 8 in pants.. The medium is great, love that I can adjust the waist. Any weight long underwear fits under these as well.

        Great pant

These pants are awesome. A note for sizing - I'm 5'8" and usually a size 4 and the small is almost too big - I have to really cinch down the waist tabs. The pants are pretty thick. I live in Utah and will use them for snow shoeing and skiing all winter.
