Falketind Flex1 Softshell Pant

The Norrona Women's Falketind Flex1 Softshell Pants give your legs all-day comfort whether you're backcountry skiing, ice climbing, or alpine climbing. These pants are Norrona's lightest Flex1 softshell pants. Flex1 softshell gets bathed with a DWR coating to offer your lower half breathable, weather-resistant protection. The fabric is supremely stretchy and smart about sweat so your legs won't get tanked by a damp feeling. The gaiter hook grabs hold of boot laces, and the ankles take a snappy approach to adjustability so you can secure these pants over your bulky mountaineering boots. Two angled hand pockets up front shouldn't harass your harness, and a single rear zipped pocket is a convenient place to stash any small essentials.

  • Norrona's lightest Flex1 pants for climbing and ski touring
  • Stretch softshell remains breathable while you climb
  • Water-resistant finish protects from light snow and spindrift
  • Internal gaiters and snap-adjustable cuffs fit over boots
  • Adjustable waist system enables a secure and customizable fit
  • Slim fit delivers a bulk-free feel while climbing and skiing

Perfect pants except

  • Size Bought: S

These pants were exactly what I was looking for and they fit so nicely, except for the waistband. Tourniquet came to mind. It was laughable how tight the waistband was compared to the rest of the pant so I returned them.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: small

Delightful fit, fabulous material. My interest was for spring ski touring, however these pants do not have ankle zips to accommodate a ski boot. Man, they are great though if you want a nice lightweight tech pant.
Four starts related to ski boot fit failure.

Super Comfy and Durable

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: small

I really like these pants in that they are both functional and comfy. I wasn't sure I'd like them at first because they are so thin and have no insulation at all, but with a base layer, they are quite warm in temps of 20-40 F. Below 20 F, I'd suggest two base layers. The fit is pretty lose around the thighs for me, but the waist sits prefectly on my hips. I could wear these pants all day! Curious to see how they feel in warmer temps. I have not worn them yet in rain or snow, so I'm not sure how water resistant they are.

Great fit!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

These pants move with you! I bought these to be a versitle snow and outdoor adventure. They are super flexible with room to layer under. The waiste band is wide and comfortable where it sits, overall great pant. The length was awesome too!

Solid Do-Anything Pant

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

The first time I slid these on I knew I was going to like them. The fit is out of this world, and the movement within these slim fitting pants also blow my mind. I got the M for some extra room to layer under and for the length. Not only is there room for layers but they are still fitted and sleek looking without. With the adjustable waist system, I am able to snug them down for a warmer day if I am not wearing a base layer. Super durable, comfy and breathable. Great pant if you're looking for something tough, breathable and still offers protection against the elements.

Magic, do-it-all pants

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I've worn these pants backpacking, rock climbing, and mountaineering and never been unhappy in them. After two years of wear, they still look like new. They shed the occasional Sierra thundershower, stretch to accommodate high stepping, and hold up to chimneying and kneebars without a single snag. If I get a paws-up greeting from my muddy pup, the mud dries and brushes right off them. I probably wouldn't glissade in them, but they stay dry when I'm kneeling or doing some light sliding around in the snow. And the velcro waist adjustment tabs make sure the pants don't fall down even at the end of a long backpacking trip. Also: plenty of pockets!

I find that they run shorter than Norrona's super long baselayers, so they're a touch short on my long legs, but not as short as most other hiking pants. All in all a great piece of kit that I always enjoy wearing.

Magic, do-it-all pants

Amazing lightweight softshells !

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

I LOVE these softshells. I wore them on Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, a couple mountaineering trips in Alaska and most recently on Denali . I have two pairs... I loved them so much I bought a second color :) They tuck in well to mountaineering boots that have a built in gaitor or go over chunky boots too. The fabric is stretchy and not crunchy or thick like all of the others ive tried. There is no lining at all, but layered up with a lightweight (or heavyweight) base layer , these block the wind and insulate AND breathe well enough that i was not cold even in pretty frigid temps....and not boiling when it was warm. Like , they performed perfectly in all temperatures, repel snow and wind, and at no point did i feel uncomfortable. Best of all, I am 5'4 and they arent too long !!! I have stumpy short legs and I always have issues with technical pants being crazy long . Awesome all around, basically . Glad I found these pants and will likely order them in a third color :)

I am a huge fan of Norrona, durability at its finest. Now, i also tell other people to buy Norrona because of the quality, fit, style, etc. On this fateful day, up in the spring mountains of the PNW where it was slick snow, wet and cold i was wearing my Norrona tights and Norrona softshell pants. My friend was also wearing her soft shell Norrona pants and some other tights. We were descending down and crossed a section that dropped into a long snowfield. All was fine until my friend tripped, she slid out of control down a snowfield. She gained speed as the slope got steeper. At this point i am now quickly descending to help her get back up. (she was from texas and not used to the snow) i now full on panicked as i knew there was also a freaking waterfall she was now sliding out of control towards. the snowfield dropped at about 300 feet which was a steep drop onto the waterfall. I could not hear her nor see her at this point. i start thinking, now this will be a rescue mission for her body as she had gone over the waterfall!!!! By some chance, her Norrona pants caught onto the rocky ledge ripping open her butt seam but it stopped her speed and although she still flung onto the rocks under the falls, the pants stopped her from SHOOTING over the ledge. she amazingly did not break anything!!! i climbed, as safe as possible, down the side of the falls. i was being hit with side water, sliding down soaking mossy wet surfaces and at one point sitting in a pool of water. we were both on a very tight rocky ledge covered in water for 3 hours. it took another 3 hours to get her down. Now the whole process being terrifying my Norrona gear and her Norrona pants are what kept us warm and helped with early stages of hypothermia. NORRONA SAVED OUR ASSES, literally saving my friends life. Now her pants are beyond repair, but her life is intact. I am a Norrona wear-er for LIFE and im pretty sure she is too.

Besides the story from hell. Yes, these pants got wet but my mid layer tights kept me warm. My pants were super durable when i was scraping against the rocks going down and then having to climb back up the wet, rocky falls. I will never look at these pants the same. I am sure she has similar feelings towards her exception outdoor gear-good stuff is worth every penny.

Great fit! But not meant for skiing

I love the fit of these pants! I'm 5'1" and 115 lbs and the S fit perfectly with just a little bit of wiggle room in the rear. I bought them with the intention of ski touring in them since I run hot and no longer want to tour in my leggings, but will have to return them since the cuff of these pants don't fit over my touring boots. These would fit over mountaineering boots no problem! But ski boots? Forget it.

      Awesome hiking and all-around pant

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

I love these pants and they fit perfectly. I use them for hiking in the summer as they are nice and lightweight and keep the mosquitos away. They also have a good number of pockets that work for different things. An all around great pant.

      Just getting started

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

Just getting started using these but for now they have a great fit and perfect for ski touring

Megan! How are you liking these pants? Looking for a good, breathable, burley softshell for touring. :)

      What size did you purchase?

      Fantastic, durable, good looking

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: medium

These pants are fantastic. They have everything you need, nothing you don't, keep you warm and dry, and look good doing it. I have had mine for 3 years now and they look as good as the day I got them. Highly recommended.

      For in depth review:

Thanks so much for taking the time to write this review Anna!
Glad you're loving the pants and yourself in them!

      wifey Loves em

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: small

I bought these for my wife to use during the spring days and for jaunts into the backcountry. the are stretchy, fitted nicely, and an all around comfortable and durable pant to use in the backcountry, the resort, or walking around in winter

      Girlfriend LOVES these pants

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

My girlfriend and I just returned from a 6-day mountaineering course on Mt Baker and she was absolutely thrilled with these pants. Good fit, great pocket placement (and amount of pockets), and she really liked how they looked. They held up and kept her reasonably dry during self-arrest and crevasse rescue training that required lots of time in the snow and ice. I'm sure she will get good use of them when we get into ski/snowboard season in the coming months!

      Very nice pant

I bought these as x-country ski pants but they would also work well as spring skiing alpine as well and hiking. The material is fairly lightweight. Well designed, flattering if a bit on the long side ( I am 5'8"). True to size otherwise. A little low waisted for me but I'm keeping them, I'll just compensate with my wooly underwear that actually goes to my waist. Belt loops are always appreciated even if I don't use them all the time. These pants can also go to town without looking like you are still in your ski clothes.

        Great pants!

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: xs

I am impressed at how stylish and comfortable these are. I am so happy to find a true-to-size XS. I love these, and will use them on cross country ski tours.

        Great Pants

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: medium

This is my first Norrona purchase and it will not be my last! These pants are awesome. I got them for winter hiking and ice climbing. Unfortunately, I tore my ACL early in the season and have not been able to put them through the wringer.. yet. I can't wait to though! I have only had them out several times. They have repelled water and tears well. I snagged them a few times and you can't even tell. I love the fit and they look great. I was not sure on the sizing but ended up going with my normal size, "medium" and it was spot on. Love all the pockets and they stretch with you as you move. The waist adjust system works well though I usually wear a belt with them out of habit. Overall, I might even buy in another color.
