Fantastic :)

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: large

I just tried them in my local DH park and they performed admirably. Very comfortable and once you adjust them they stay put. They have enough room for hard shell knee pads, and are very well made. I do have soccer quads and the extra room is appreciated. They survive a massive crashed, Not even one hole in them. Be aware that they do run small, I am around 195lbs 33 waist and the large are perfect for me. Worth every penny, even more on sale :)

I am glad you like them Federico! You know I love the Norrona bike gear.

Holy Grail

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: medium

Sooo if you're on the fence because of the cost. Don't be, the Norrena brand has their sh8% figured out. I hike, paraglide, xc bike, DH bike, wear them out in town. I purchased medium's but of should of gotten the larges. I now have another set of Norrena shorts and pants. I would replace my entire wardrobe with this brand if I could afford it.

Quality Norrona gear

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

I'm right on the cusp of fit w/ these - I'm 32/33 waist and medium fits exactly - so the velcro's don't move for me at all, just stay in place. Overall the cut & style is sweet - and everyone seems to want to know what the viking is all about (on all my Norrona gear). It sounds like the large, which normally fits my waist size, would be just too big, or pleating / bagging up on cinching the v-cro straps on the sides, which looks dopey.

The only gripe I have w/ this, and its not major, is that the main cinch / lock is velcro right at the front where a snap or button normally would be. So far it holds up fine, but my experience w/ v-cro is that it ultimately wears and strips, leaving you in bind. I don't know why Norrona wouldn't just have a backup button or snap (etc) so that if the v-cro pops off or wears out, you aren't basically stuck w/ useless gear.

Still - the pockets are good, it dries fast, looks sweet, and as usual - everything Norrona makes seems to never bust a stitch, so I'm still on board.

Nicely Made, innovative design features

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

Cannot add much other than I like features but sized too small. I reordered XXL can add addendum to review later. First impressions, construction and design are very positive though!

I Love the color and zippered pockets!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I bought the green color shorts for canyoneering. I do a lot of slot canyons in Southern Utah during the spring, summer, and fall. I have been using regular boardshorts but I have always wanted some bright green shorts with zippered pockets. I was very happy to have found these! the pockets have a mesh lining to quickly drain water and are super useful. The fabric didn't hold up as well as regular boardshorts did rubbing against sandstone walls, but that is sort of to be expected in slot canyons. I love the velcro waist adjustment feature so you don't need a belt or a draw sting. I wish I would have bought 3 more pairs of these when they were in stock!

Awesome summer everything short

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Just picked another pair of these up this season, and just as impressed as always. The quality is unparalleled. The craftsmanship is detailed. The technology in the waist adjustment system as always is awesome. They are incredibly light. They dry fast as any board short. The material for a synergistic material allows them to be dynamic for all of your activities. I really like the length of these, they come down just to my mid patella so I don't get that annoying rubbing at the top of my calf. The only issue I have with these is the sizing. This is really no fault to Norrona, it is difficult enough to tailor to the masses and I just happen to fall in between. I am what I would consider a true medium. I have an actual waist size of 32.75-33 depending on the season. The smalls in this come up to a 32.7 which is much to tight for comfort for me. The mediums maybe slightly too large, but the waist velcro adjustment makes it possible for these to fit ok. If you have a waist of my size or near it, I am going to suggest sizing up. if you are a 32-32.5 I am going to say you are on the cusp, and if you don't plan on tucking anything in, try going with the small. If you think you will tuck something in then definitely go up. Sorry you larges out there, I just don't know beyond my scope of size.

Functional adjustment

The sizing of Norrona pants varies from style to style. In some I absolutely need a medium for fit in waist (33 in waist). Here, the there were no mediums available so I tried a large. With the velcro adjustment it fit fine. And the pants themselves are great. The velcro adjustment is kind of weird - at least I have never seen anything quite like it - on both sides of the waist - but is very functional. Love 'em!

    Love these!

OK, so the colors are great (Except the "Space" color is so-so in that regard). It is a bummer they have a limited supply of sizes. The sizing chart is misleading for this pair of shorts. It says a Large fits 36-37 inch waist. But I tried on a L and was surprised it fit so well for my 32-33 waist. I usually have to go M. There is quite a bit of adjustment with two Velco straps on the side of the waist and one upfront. The fit is reasonably trim. There are no belt loops but good range of adjustment in the Velcro straps mentioned above. The pants themselves are super practical for hiking/outdoors stuff with the zip pockets. They have been wearing extremely well in the two months I have been using them.

      Love these!

      Great short!

Water resistant, tough and slightly stretchy. The Medium fits me well as a 6' tall 170lb man. They fit just below the knee. They look great as well.

Just got these and I absolutely love them. Expensive but so worth it. Material is breathable and sheds water great. Went with the large and happy I did. I have about a 33" waist.

          Outstanding Shorts

These are not just shorts; they are a work of art. The more I wear these, the more I notice the attention to detail that was given. The stitching is flawless, which is critical on the Nabbi color to prevent them from looking too clown like. I went with a size large and the fit for me is excellent. I'm 6'3", 195 lbs. and have a true 36" waist but usually wear a 34" or 35" waist (I guess most manufacturers are adding inches onto the listed size nowadays to make us feel less fat). The waist has a good amount of stretch built in as well as velcro straps to adjust the waist. Luckily, the waist is perfect for me as the velcro straps are basically useless. Unlike other Norrona shorts and pants that have an elastic band in the waist, these simply require that you bunch up the waist fabric and secure it in place with the velcro strap. The front of the waist is also secured by velcro, which is nice as it gives you some micro adjustment of the waist sizing. Overall, these have a slim but loose fit. The fabric has a decent amount of stretch and a soft, brushed lining. I have large, muscular thighs and these shorts are a little snug around the upper portion, but the zippered hand pockets really give you some extra room when unzipped. The inseam in a size large is 12.5" and they fall just below the base of the kneecap on me. The pockets are all mesh lined which allows for nice ventilation when they are unzipped. The cargo pocket was well thought out as it is backed with the flex1 fabric to prevent larger items from rubbing against your leg, but still has a small section of mesh at the bottom that allows for air flow. It also has a hidden key clip (it took me almost a dozen wears before finding it) inside the cargo pocket that prevents them from sinking to the bottom or accidentally bouncing out if left unzipped. As I mentioned earlier, I usually keep the front hand pockets unzipped to allow for a little more room. These pockets also have a thin strip of the flex1 fabric just behind the zipper to give them a nice seamless look and prevent people from seeing your underwear through the mesh pockets. It also has one rear pocket that is ridiculously deep (fortunate, as you’ll need deep pockets to afford these shorts at retail price). This allows a wallet or other object to sit below your butt and prevents you from sitting directly on whatever is in the pocket. The zipper pull on this pocket is nicely designed to rest on the side of your thigh when zipped closed, but I have had it scratch up my leather car seats if left open. The only other minor quibble I have with these is that the fabric is a little noisy when it rubs against itself or other objects as it has a very fine corduroy pattern. Also, the technical fabric is water resistant, but to maintain it, you’ll likely want to wash and treat it with Nikwax occasionally. Overall, these are amazing shorts, but unless you can swallow the hefty price (or find them on sale) and the fit is just perfect, they probably won’t be for you.

please tell me you're gonna get some mediums...

please tell me you're gonna get some mediums in stock

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately we will not be getting fresh stock in the /29 Flex 1 Short from Norrona until the Spring/Summer season of 2012. I hope this is helpful for you.
