Wanted to Love, but Couldn’t
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Purchased this tent for my family of four at a great price and was more than excited to take it camping! Tent set up quickly and easily and kept everyone warm enough while offering good ventilation in the fly and through the window. The second day, a thunderstorm rolled in and we received strong winds and moderate showers for about 15-20 minutes. As my husband was scurrying to cover things outside he noticed water rolling off the front edge of the fly, hitting the tent, and collecting underneath, between the tent and the groundcloth. This was definitely in part due to a strong wind driving the rain in that direction, but also possible due to the shorter fly. Once the skies cleared I looked under the tent to see that a rather large amount of water was pooled on top of the groundcloth. Though I soaked most of it up with a couple of towels, some stayed and the next morning as I rolled up our bags and pads I saw that the tent floor was wet on the inside. Enough water soaked through that the bottoms of our pads were wet as well. Considering the material specs of the floor I didn’t think this would happen. Maybe I got a bad apple, but I’ll be sending this tent back and looking for something else. Backcountry was great about processing a return, so I would certainly buy from them again in the future.
