    Travel Trunk 47-180L Duffel

This tough-as-nails travel duffel will go to the ends of the earth loaded with skiing, climbing, biking, hiking, and travel gear. Ballistic nylon reinforcements ensure the Travel Trunk Duffel can handle tons of weight, and this durable fabric sluffs off abrasion when being dragged around the airport. You can carry this travel duffel with either a removable shoulder strap or padded haul straps. If you've packed a ton of climbing gear, have a friend grab one of the end handles and share the load. Mountainsmith gave the Travel Trunk two quick release compression straps to manage bulky loads and a small internal zippered pocket to keep small items separate.

    • A burly duffel built for the long haul
    • Reinforced construction eats adventure for breakfast
    • Removable shoulder straps are padded and anti-slip
    • End haul handles assist with heavy carries
    • Anti-snag zipper makes packing and unpacking easy
    • Compression straps let you consolidate your gear
    • Inside pockets help organize the smaller bits and pieces

      Carry everything

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I got an XXL and it's huge! I put my partner and I's sleeping bags, pads, pillows, and more and it helps keep my gear organized and all my tent gear together so we can carry everything from the house to the car and from the car straight to the tent all in one trip. The shoulder strap is sturdy and comfortable with heavy or awkwardly loose loads.

      Simple and Sturdy

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I have not used this for many trips or on an airline yet, but so far this thing is built sturdy and had nice features. Compression straps, two carrying variations for personal use, and solid zippers make me think this will be my favorite bag for road trips, moving, and storage. I got XL and it is as advertised!

      Great Weekend Getaway Bag

This bag is perfect for 4 day weekend getaways. I ordered the size Medium and it's great. The compression straps are a nice added touch.

Pretty happy with it so far

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This bag is pretty spacious--and I only did the L. It looks pretty cool and it feels well made. I stuffed it full of gear and had room to spare. The zippers also seem pretty high quality compared to other bags. I anticipate I'll get a lot of use out of this one!

        TRAVEL TRUNK

          TRAVEL TRUNK

          25years and going strong

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought a predecessor of this bag in 1989, and after 5 extended trips to South America, a 2-month trip to Europe, a trip or two to Canada and God only knows how many camping trips, it's still going strong.

          Mountainsmith Travel Trunk

Built for the long haul, our heritage duffel styles offer industry leading durability and gear swallowing capacity for every distant adventure.

            Red Fuzz Magnet

            • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So I purchased this sturdy, solidly constructed bag 2 years ago for traveling and the gym, and bike excursions. I love te compression straps that help cinch the contents into a small, more dense and manageable size. Wish it had an inside pocket that ran the length of the bag, but it is a small pouch with no real way to zip, close, or secure contents. The exterior pocket is perfect for locks or chapstick, but not much else really. There is a yello cinch cord there that can hold a large 750L water bottle tight. The end strap us super convenient for snatching and flinging it about too. But, in a matter of months, my enthusiasm for how awesome it performed was outweighed by the fact that every piece of fuzz or stray animal hair within the vicinity ends up clinging to this material. Even carpet hairs, which I don't have, but whenever the bag was placed on anyone's carpet, it pulled up stray fibers. UGH, right! I also have animals, and other bags never had this issue. Even after washing, it still happens. So I very rarely turn to this great sized, easy packing, well made hauler b/c it looks horrible all the time. I have another Mountainsmith bag that's over 20 years old and going strong and doesn't have this problem. Just saying, for $80, it shouldn't pull all the hair onto it like it's magnetically charged to do so, and if so, it should easily wipe off, but it doesn't. This would otherwise be a 5-star travel trunk.

            Good quality and is huge!

            • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This has become my favorite piece of luggage for beach and mountain trips.

Great for packing clothes and other soft stuff. You can squeeze in shirts and jeans for at least a week if you pack them correctly (I got the medium one).

XL/XXL only 2 compression straps now

XL and XXL now have only 2 compression straps even though product pictures still show 3. Verified with Mountainsmith that product has changed. Still appears to be a robust and well-made product; time will tell.

              High Quality...Simple...

              • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is an excellent high quality bag. I successfully carried over 45 pounds of weight in the Medium. Nothing broke...or popped out of place. Its a well made bag with good attention to detail...

              Great Big Bag!

I purchased the M & L and like them both. The large is huge...my husband and I can both pack in it for a weekend away or camping. It is very roomy and I really like the compression straps. The medium is smaller than I thought - I can pack in it for a weekend but not with much room to spare. I used it for random stuff, shoes & jackets when camping. I also like the durable fabric - wiped it clean with a wet rag - dog hair came right off.

                MONSTROUS!

I actually considered getting a XXL for a weeklong trip to Colorado. We will be basecamping in a cabin in the mountains and doing several hikes and hopefully an overnight. I tend to pack more than I need for this type of thing. (I do a little better when I have to put it on my back:) I ended up going with an XL and had room to spare!

Be very careful and don't go overboard on size. Also I believe the XL can stay within size limit for checked bags on a plane (I have not tested this theory) But the XXL is definitely over the limit.

                  Trunk it up!

This is my favorite travel bag. Period. End of story. I nabbed a red XL off S&C about 2 years ago now, and it has been everywhere with me since then. The last three months it has been traveling through Europe with me, moving from place to place daily. It virtually weighs nothing itself, and can thus be stuffed to the brim with goodies. Sure, it has no structure, so things could potentially shift around a little, but thats what the 3 compression straps are for...securing in all the good stuff. Once pulled tight, the straps held my bag so securely snug that I even traveled with bottles of wine and artwork through 6 countries and back home without anything breaking. This bag is perfect for almost any occasion. The only downside: I wouldn't recommend it for a trip where you will be potentially carrying it for awhile on your feet...it is sometimes deceiving, and can weigh much more than one would think after packing it chop full.

                    whatta great sack!

this thing is very large. for a weekend travel bag for two it is plenty roomy. cool inner zip pocket for your special items. also roomy. the zippers are oversized to perfection. and yes, one could even padlock them. i bought the large size. very heavy duty. i dont know what one would do with the bigger bags. alright i guess i can imagine.. i am not sure if my 70 liter backpack would fit in there. maybe.
i like this product very much and would recommend and would purchase again.
