Hard on wear. Easy on the mountain.

The Mountain Hardwear Men's Hardwear AP 5-Pocket Pants are the pair you could wear at work and directly to the hiking trail, climbing gym, or boulder field without a problem. Sometimes you only have enough time for work and a climb, which is why a pair like the Hardwear AP really comes in handy.

Great Feel, Very Functional Pants

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 31/30

Bought these as all around pants for gym climbing, camping, and casual wear and so far they have worked out great! I am a smaller guy and end up swimming in most active wear pants, the AP pants have a nice slim fit, enough stretch for active use and work really well for me! Fabric feels a little stiff fresh out of the bag but they are breaking in nicely and get more comfortable each time I wear them.
For my intended use I would probably get the standard AP pants over this 5 pocket version if I were to buy again, just seems to have more features like the reflective cuffs and snaps for rolling up the legs, but overall the whole AP line are very well made!

Good Pants for Sure

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 34/30

Bought these for my BF. He really likes them. He was stoked on a slimmer fitting pant, that wasn't all "skinny jeaned out" lol. Bonus-reflective material for your late night rides home from the pub.

Tried to love them

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 30/32

Maybe my expectations were too high but I bought these hoping they could serve as the one and only "travel pants" for a two week trip to Southeast Asia. Something comfortable enough to wear on long trans Pacific flights, durable and cool enough for trekking in muggy rainforests and stylish enough for a Bangkok rooftop bar.

Good fit: These are a true slim fit. They fit well through the legs and have a little more room up top. I usually wear 30/32 and found these to be a bit long.
Durable: I haven't had a chance to do any hiking but they feel very well made. I think they could hold up to years of use and abuse.

Comfort: The material is rough and scratchy. The rise is also pretty low (to be blunt they have ball crushing potential, especially when sitting). While they would probably work well for hiking, I would not want to wear them on a long flight.
Washing: These do not wash very well. They attract lint and pet hair like crazy and the wash does not seem to be able to get it off. They also come out very wrinkly. Pet owners beware.
Water resistance: Perhaps not surprising given that they have cotton but these things soak up water like a sponge. I was expecting at least some degree of water resistance.

Stoked, so far

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 31x30

I'm a big fan of these. I would describe the fit as slim/ athletic, but the material is stretchy enough that you don't lose any mobility. The quality seems on point, and I'm very pleased so far.

Great All Around Pants

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

I bought these as a gift for my boyfriend and he loves them. He wanted a pair of pants that he could wear to work and then to the climbing gym and these fit the bill perfectly! It's a really flattering straight leg cut that looks really sleek but doesn't inhibit any leg movement when he's climbing.

Hi Hannah, do these pants wick water at all? Thanks!
