Make old Ben proud.

Whether or not Ben Franklin wore plaid is up for debate. One thing is for sure, if he did it would have definitely been the Mountain Hardwear Men's Franklin Shirt. Made from a cotton, polyester blend, this mountain-friendly plaid shirt has what it takes whether you're hiking Mount Washington or conducting a little electrical experiment during a lightning shower.

Lightweight and solid

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

So Mountain Hardwear has always baffled me with it's sizing, I'm about 6 ft and 150 lbs, so pretty skinny. I got the small and it fits well. Highly recommend trying this on beforehand or ordering multiple sizes to make sure you get the right one. I got another button down from MHW and it fit very different to this one so I'm a bit confused about how they size things. It's a lightweight shirt and designed more for spring-fall activities.

Don't waste your time

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Large

Boxy fit and colors don't pop like on website photo. I got cote du rhone in size L (6' 1", 183lbs) and it drapes on me like a dress. Maybe medium would've been better but even then the colors all kind of meld together unattractively. Can't recommend this one. On the plus side, Backcountry got it to me amazingly quickly, so props to them. Unfortunately, this one is going back and I would heavily advise you to consider other options given the nearly $60 price tag.

Great Shirt

This shirt fits true to size for me. Typically a large and the large fits very well. Also, it has a great feel and style!

    Not made for big men

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small

I wear XL and sometimes L in most button down shirts. I'm 6'2" but typically don't have a problem with shirt length. Most of Mountain Hardwear Jackets & pullovers I have are great. This shirt is not great. Extremely thin, almost like a slim fit and ridiculously short.
    Backcountry is still great though.

    How to Measure:
All measurements correspond to equivalent body measurements, not the dimensions of the garment. For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
    Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
    Sleeve:
Measure from the center of your back to your wrist with arms held out.
    Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
    Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
    Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
