Reliable warmth when it rains.

Unlike most puffy jackets, the Mountain Hardwear Men's Dynotherm Down Jacket stays warm when it rains over campsites, trails, and cities. That's because Mountain Hardwear treated the jacket's light and lofty down insulation with Q.Shield to help the down retain its warmth in moisture. The Hi Five ripstop shell features double-needle stitched seams for long-lasting durability.

  • A down jacket to keep you warm from mountain peaks to cafes
  • Q.Shield Down insulation resists light rain and snow
  • Double needle stitching adds long lasting durability
  • Dual hem drawcords trap in heat and lock out cold
  • Jacket can be packed into the zippered chest pocket for storage

Great jacket, dose not run big

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XXL

I read a lot of the review before I decided to order the size I usually wear because most of them say that it runs big and I wanted to be able to put some light layers under as needed. I don't have an athletic build and comfortably wear a XL and even L in some cloths so I ordered an XL. When it arrived I was very disappointed at how small it was, it barely fit around my shoulders and fit my body like a base layer. I exchanged it for an XXL and it fits perfect. The exchange process was the extremely easy 5 star, the jacket 5 star, the fit 2 stars

Great utility jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Bought this to replace my boyfriend's Mountain Hardware jacket that was beyond repair. Same style, but some great improvements from the older model. Good as a stand alone jacket, but also great for seasonal layering. He wears it all of the time.

Solid Puffy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Small

This is a great jacket. It's warm, form fitting yet roomy enough to layer up underneath. I went with a size down and that works for me. Used the jacket with a sweater in heavy/cold rain and I was warm and dry. A few feathers have poked themselves out over the last few weeks but that's natural. Wish the pockets had some insulation though, that tends to be where I lose my heat with down jackets, other than that it's a great jacket. The picture is of the jacket's water proofing ability, taken right after walking in from the storm mentioned above.

Unanswered Question

I understand the insulation is Q.Shielded to help with moisture, but is the outer layer waterproof or water resistant? I want to use this as a casual snowboarding jacket.

Fits true to size my n=1

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

I wear a medium in everything, but bought a small based on the other reviews and it was a huge mistake. Should have gone for the medium. The small fit like a base layer.

Go a size down

  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Med

I just received it, so i'll update after putting it through the test. Initial impression is positive. Build is solid w/no obvious defects. zippers look good. Giving it a four stars because the sizing is way off. Luckily i was warned before buying. I'm 6'1", broad-shouldered, and 180lbs. The medium fits me w/room to spare. Arms are plenty long. Definitely go a size down!

Keeps me warm

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

This jacket does run big as others have said but I liked the larger fit so I could wear this as a stand alone rather than a slim fit meant to layer under other outer layers. I like this jacket overall as a stand alone one layer.

Does run big,, but nice Jacket.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I almost didn't buy this jacket because all that was available in the color I wanted was Med, and I always wear lrg or even xl. After trying it on the med fit great, so the moral of the story is I agree with other reviews. This is a good looking light weight down jacket that packs down small and is warm especially when used under an outer shell, but you might size down when ordering.

Size

I'm 6', 190lbs, athletic build and the large was way too big for me. Sending it back.

Who put the size label on?

Great quality as typical from Mountain Hardware.
iPhone 6 plus was too large to fit in the pope pocket.
Perfect place to keep a phone, if it fits. MH you listening?
I have two other MH down jackets size L that fit perfectly. I was swimming in this jacket. Looked at reviews on a few other sites before I pulled the trigger since none were posted on Backcountry. A number of people mentioned the sizing ran way large. Should have listened.

How to Measure:
All measurements correspond to equivalent body measurements, not the dimensions of the garment. For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Sleeve:
Measure from the center of your back to your wrist with arms held out.
Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
