Boundary Ridge GTX 3L Jacket

Inspired from heli missions and cat trip adventures, the Mountain Hardwear Boundary Ridge GTX 3L Jacket is the ultimate in weather protection and durability when you are facing exposed terrain on the line of your dreams. The durable polyester shell is ultra-tough against rugged terrain, and 3-layer recycled Gore-Tex protects you from the wettest conditions imaginable while still allowing your body to breathe and regulate temperature. Underarm zippers allow airflow when you're headed across the ridgeline to your drop zone or bootpacking up a couloir, and oversized drop pockets fit an extra pair of gloves, your climbing skins, or a radio for backcountry use.

  • Stay protected in nasty weather with this ultimate shell
  • 3L Gore-Tex is fully waterproof and breathable
  • Polyester shell is durable in rugged terrain
  • Oversized drop pockets carry extra backcountry gear
  • Underarm zippers allow airflow when working hard to the summit
  • Helmet-compatible hood is fully adjustable for secure fit
  • Zippered hand pockets securely hold valuables

Don't Buy This Jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

First, the pros: The jacket fits well, vents well and is really weather resistant. I really wanted to keep it, but the Zippers! They were exceptionally stiff from the start, but I thought they might loosen up with use. They didn't. The first really cold tour I made with this jacket resulted in the zipper pull breaking off of the pocket. The Zippers just suck. There is no other way to describe it. Backcountry was awesome and let me return it, even though they aren't supposed to handle warranty repairs for Mountain Hardware. I tried the direct route with MH first and got the run around. They probably would have repaired it, but I was told I had to pay for shipping and send it in for repair, meaning that I would be without a jacket for a good portion of this ski season. Lame, but for the best. Even if they fixed that zipper, I would have had more zipper problems in the future, without a doubt. Anyway. Backcountry is awesome. Mountain Hardware (now owned by Columbia Sportswear) is not. Don't buy this jacket.

Hi Scott! We appreciate your review and feedback on the jacket and are sorry about the zippers and that it did not work out. I'm glad we were able to help out with the return. If you need help finding a different jacket, give us a call!

Great Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I have had a lot of jackets over the years, shells, ski jackets, liners, and puffies. This is a great jacket. I use it back country skiing. It’s light and versatile. Breathes really well while keeping both the moisture and wind at bay. I have read other reviews on the web about this jacket being tight with a helmet. Unless your head is the size of two basketballs not sure how it would be tight. Great jacket worth every penny!

How to Measure:
All measurements correspond to equivalent body measurements, not the dimensions of the garment. For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Sleeve:
Measure from the center of your back to your wrist with arms held out.
Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
