A spectacle of design.

Designed for backcountry touring, the Mountain Equipment Men's Spectre WindStopperPant shields you from biting wind chills while you skin up brisk summits. This pant features Gore WindStopper material that's not only windproof, but highly breathable, while the inner thigh vents assure on-the-go temperature regulation should you need a little extra assistance in dumping excess heat. Additionally, the integrated belt offers a personalized fit, and the reinforced kick-strips further safeguard your boots, socks, and baselayers from sharp ski edges. Not to mention, the semi-fitted design offers unimpeded mobility thanks to the flared leg that specifically accommodates ski boots.

Perfect Pants!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: large

This is a perfect backcountry pant. I like the added breathability of windstopper vs a shell pant. I have never had any issues with the waterproofness since I only use it in snow. The reinforced cuffs are super burly so I'm happy that these will last a very long time.

Somewhat Life Changing

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

OK life changing might be a bit dramatic... but I have always toured in normal hard shell ski pants. Nice, light 3 layer pants, but still hard shells. Those are great and still what I use for long/snow days. But for quick jaunts before work, or clear sunny days, the extra mobility and breathability of these pants is incredible. What's nice about these particular pants is that the gore windstopper fabric is actually quite water resistant, so if there's a chance of getting snowed on you can still afford to send it and rock these and generally be ok. I've worn them in full on blizzards even when I was just out for short 1-2 hour jaunts, and they kept me dry.

Unlike the other reviewer, I actually find the fit to be somewhat slim. I'm 6' 195lbs, with somewhat muscular legs I suppose. The 34 fit my waist perfect, which is what I always wear, and the legs are pretty trim. In fact if they were any more trim then they would be too tight for strong-legged folks to move around in in my opinion.

"Somewhat muscular"? How quaint.

Nice pants, too long

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: 30

I ordered these for ski touring. Design and materials were very good. I read a review in Backcountry Magazine which said they were very trim and had a snug fit - which they don't. I'm not sure how many people have a 30 waist and are 5'11 but not me! I returned them since they were way too long. These pants are made in a short length but Backcountry doesn't seem to sell them.

I am 6' tall and have a 30" waist...
