Best shorts I've ever owned?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small (30)

I love these things. I basically live in them in summer. They're good to run in, climb in, hang out in, backpack in, and while they're not sold as mountain biking shorts, with a pair of padded shorts in them they are the equal of anything from the big MTB brands. These are gaining a cult following in the UK as a serious MTB short and they are amazing for that too. Fabric's super durable, soft, lightweight, dries really fast, water repellent, zip pockets are well positioned, and they just look rad.

On fit, I'm pretty skinny thanks to a diet of road cycling and running and usually wear a 30 and these fit me in a 30 perfectly, but if you're between sizes I'd go for the larger size, especially if you've got bigger legs.

My new favorite shots

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 34

I've had these for about two months and wanted to get a decent amount of use on them before posting a thorough review. I've been extremely happy with these. Definitely one of the better shorts or hiking and especially climbing. They live up to the standards Mountain Equipment apparel has been known for.

Waist Size:
The euro's have small butts. My normal pant size is 32" in Prana, 34" in Kuhl, but most of the time I go for 33" pants. Since 33" wasn't an option in the Comici shorts, I went for the 34"s and I'm glad I did since I apparently have a large butt. They've stretch and relaxed in the waist just a little. But they fit great. They're a bit snug on my butt, but that doesn't bother me since I'm not looking back there and I'm really only climbing or hiking in them.

Thigh Size:
They run a little euro in the thighs, meaning they're a bit snug. But that is fine since they've got some stretch to them and I'm primarily climbing and hiking in them.

Features - Zippered Pockets:
The pockets are really nice on these. I like the zippers since they prevent the contents of my pockets from falling out and the thigh pocket is big enough for a smart phone.

Features - Waist Closure:
I like this a lot. There are two small snaps above the zipper. They don't pop when you bend over or are active the way some of the lower quality snaps do on other brands shorts/pants.

Fabric Stretch:
The Exolite 125 softshell fabric is pretty awesome. Definitely a great material for climbing, hiking or being active in the summer time.

Mountain Equipment Quality:
I own gloves, hardshell jackets, hats, mid layers, and shorts from Mountain Equipment and I've been nothing but thrilled with their products. The attention to detail in their design/manufacturing is pretty dang awesome. They make the best apparel in my opinion for climbers and mountaineering. Basically when I need new apparel, ever since discovering Mountain Equipment, they've been the ones I turn to. No need to bother with any of the other brands that are over priced .
