End-all-be-all of multi-pitch climbing

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After looking for a harness that excelled better at multi-pitch, I found this company had great reviews and features. I took this one up through Yosemite on my first trad experience, and it was worth it on the multiple hanging belays present on the climbs there. It also excels at bringing items up as a second or leader since it has so many gear loops as well. It is now my main harness for anything but sport (the weight/size in pack).

Please make sure you use the *correct* hip measurement on the site (with a tape measure). You want to be at the small range of the size coverage of the harness for the padding and harness to work properly.

Dark horse all-rounder

Got this to do my first big wall and have ended up using it for hard single pitch trad, sport, speed runs up Nutcracker, and big wall. The 6 gear loops are pretty handy for organizing gear. Fully loaded with triples to 3, aiders, alpines, extra biners, and the kitchen sink I haven't had hip bruising or a particularly sore lower back after a full day+ on the wall.

First Impressions

I've only used this in the gym so far...

Very comfortable harness. All of the accessories (e.g., extra gear loops and rated haul loop) are really nice features. I can't wait to get the rest of my gear so I can get the harness dirty.

I've had 20+ harnesses

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had 20+ harnesses... over the last 30 years. I have a home depot plastic tub full... Sure Arc'teryx makes some really pretty products and now BD is following suit with their Solution line but once I bought my first Cadillac I honestly never went back. I'm not a sport climber... maybe if I was I'd go lighter and with something with less options... I'm a trad climber that clips a few bolts here and there and end up in the gym now and then. This is THE harness. Not just comfort but function. Once you have it you will have a really hard time reverting to another harness. I LOVE the two additional gear loops... no, you probably don;t need more capacity but what they allow you to do is to rack in a more organized fashion - spread things out a little and make access to the items you need quickly much easier.

Just buy it... you won't regret it.

My favorite harness!

Comfortable and easy to use, now my go to harness!

    Wish I'd bought one sooner!

Wasted time & money on Black Diamond and Arcteryx. This is an excellent all-around harness for Yosemite. Only comparable harness is Yates, but for Big Walls. Order direct from MM if you want to mix/match your waist and leg loop sizes. Ready to buy the 2016 model as gift for climbing partner of 30 years. Tired of looking at ratty and tattered leg loops!

    Best harness out there

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got into trad climbing last year and wanted to invest in a solid harness for trad. I have a petzl sama as well which is great for sport but doesn't carry a trad rack all that well and isn't super comfy for multi-pitch climbs. This thing however is fantastic. I work in a climbing gym so I'm in my harness a lot and it stays comfortable the whole time. It's also comfortable to hang in while doing hanging belays. The six gear loops makes keeping your trad rack organized a breeze and prevents overly crowded gear loops. I have also added a piece of paracord with rubber tubing over it between the two back gear loops to rack my belay device, hallow block, and anchor supplies so they don't take up space on the gear loops while climbing. Having two of the gear loops at the top of the harness is fantastic because it keeps you gear from hanging too low and hitting your knees. The craftsmanship of the harness is amazing you can feel and see how well built it is. The guys down at the Misty shop in North Carolina are doing great work. It's a beefy harness and not the most packable. I use this thing for sport and trad it does it all really well.

    Solid multi-purpose harness

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use the caddy for long multi pitch routes and single pitch cragging, and anything in-between. It is a little heavy for something like sport climbing, but it won't hold you back. It is super comfortable and has plenty of space for gear. The guys over at misty are super nice and helpful, if you have any questions call them up and they will help you out!Support a small company that makes all their products in the USA and buy this harness!

Thanks for the review Charlie! Super helpful to get this feedback out to the community.

    Great Long Haul Harness

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I picked up the Quick-adjust (QA) version of the Cadillac harness mostly for long multi-pitch trad days, and eventually for a couple of walls. It's by far the most comfortable harness I've ever put on – hanging belays are actually pretty comfortable in this, especially compared to my super thin Arc'teryx harness. There's plenty of space on the gear loops for your rack, draws, and whatever else you want to haul up, and the rear haul loop is big and easy to reach around and clip / unclip if you're tagging a line. I'm not sure that I'll use the Cadillac as an ice harness, but since it's got clipper slots I might as well give it a shot! Misty Mountain's attention to detail is great and I'm overall very happy with the Cadillic harness.
