Adventure waits for no man.

The window of seeing the changing fall leaves in their full splendor can be short, so don the Merrell Men's Waitsfield Sugarbush Waterproof Boot and get out into the mountains before the leaves are gone. Made with a sturdy full-grain leather upper, waterproof membrane, and stout Vibram sole, the Waitsfield transitions effortlessly between leisurely fall hikes through deciduous forests and mellow afternoons in town spent sipping coffee and poring over your favorite fall read. Merrell named the Waitsfield after the valley in Vermont where the company began back in 1981, so, as a result, the boot features a classic look and feel that's reminiscent of hiking boots from the era.

  • Classic hiking boots with a vintage look and feel
  • Full-grain leather upper with waterproof membrane
  • Antimicrobial lining resists odors
  • Sheepskin-lined footbed ensures comfort
  • Sturdy Vibram sole is built to last

A Classic

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: 13

These are super comfortable lightweight shoes. You will be shocked how light they are. They feel pretty true to size. Love the blue laces and details. They do come with spare laces in a neutral color if you're not loving the blue.

Great Boot

The Merrell Sugarbush Boot is true to size and very comfortable. I use the boot as an around town boot, so I can’t speak to ruggedness. The quality appears to be impeccable. Highly recommend.

    Size 1/2 Down

I’ve been dreaming of these for years, but not sure if they would live up to my expectations. Finally took the plunges and I’m so relieved. They are perfect. I sized 1/2 down from normal and I wouldn’t want to go any smaller. The length is just right. They are breaking in pretty fast, and were already getting comfortable by the second day. Start with thin socks, on the first day. I do expect to hike in them, as I have heard they are great for day hikes, around 6 miles. I’ve also heard it’s good to wax them right away, for added protection. They do get warm in the office, but rightfully so, as they are Made for the streets of Vermont.

Bought it as an office boot

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

I love the style of this boot.
I am typically a 10.5, but bought a size down (10) and it feels almost perfect.
I love the leather - and plan on rocking them all winter long
      Super sharp.
I like the blue shoe strings.

Solid boot for casual wear/ light hikes

This boot looks great and is super comfortable, the break in time was minimal and a quick treatment and care keeps them looking sharp. These keep my foot dry in the winter and slush however they are not completely waterproof and taking them on the trail would not be the best idea. Although they have great support and a vibram sole they don’t seem built for long muddy or dry hikes. These seem more along the lines of a walking around town and resort type of boot. I would absolutely buy them again

Great looking and great functioning boot

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit: True to size
        • Size Bought: 9.5

I have had the boot for about 5 months. I use them as my every day boot in Minnesota and all the other places i have traveled. I used some leather conditioner to help speed up the break in process. Boots do well in snow and keep my feet dry. Are comfortable enough to go on 3 to 5 mile walks. Feet get a little warm if laced up and wearing them all day. Over all they have have held up great and showing zero signs of wear.

        Almost everything I need.

Look great and super comfy, run a bit large but I knew that when buying and sized down. The one fault is i don't feel these boots are waterproof. I can feel moisture inside after walking in slush. The lack of waterproofing or at least quality waterproofing also tends to show water spots on the shoes along with amplifying dirt and grime that normally would have a harder time to get stuck on the shoe.

          Great looking shoe

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times
          • Fit: True to size
          • Size Bought: 10.5

These are great shoes. I wouldn't take them out on the trail, but they look awesome and are super comfortable. The break-in time was next to nothing and I really like the splash of color on the back. I found these to be true to size, but I do wear thick-ish socks. All-in-all, these are great around town shoes, as long as you take care of the leather.

          Runs Large Again

          • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
          • Fit: Runs large
          • Size Bought: 11.00

Great boot, well made, and light weight. Yet, it is big, I am a professionally measured size 11. Get at least a half size smaller than normal.

Boots run a full size large

          • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
          • Fit: Runs large
          • Size Bought: 10 1/2

I ordered a 10 1/2 which is my normal size. The boots are at least 1 full size larger than they should be. My son who normally wears an 11 1/2 size boot now is wearing these boots.

Order a full size down if you want a decent fit. The review below is incorrect stating these boots fit like other Merrell boots. I own many Merrell's in 10 1/2 and they all fit perfectly.

This boot runs a full size large.

The boots are super high quality and the leather is excellent. A little stiff and will require a break in period.

          Merrell Heritage

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
          • Fit: True to size

I've used Merrell boots for a while now, and this new heritage collection is by far some of the best product I have from them. It pays tribute to their roots in Waitsfield VT, perfect for fall and the changing weather. So far it has been great, I've had it a few weeks and it's been through varying conditions from hot/cold to sun/rain.
It fits true to size, I would recommend ordering your normal Merrell size. If this is your first pair of Merrell's I have found they run pretty true to any run/performance shoe (same size as nike, adidas etc..)
The most notable aspect of the shoe is the look. I have received multiple compliments on the boot, and each person has been surprised to find out they are from Merrell. It dresses up or down for any occasion and is a great add to any lifestyle boot collection.

          Merrell Sizing Notes:
Merrell boots are designed to fit like your street shoes.
When ordering Merrell boots, shoes, or sandals, you should reference your normal shoe size.
          What to Expect:
A snug fit in the heel: In a stride, your foot bends at the ball, and the heel tries to pull away from the boot.
Because of Merrell's precise fit, the upper follows the heel. This prevents the slipping and sliding that eventually causes blisters.
Snug over the instep: Besides preventing the toes from sliding forward when you go down hill, a precise instep fit gives you internal control.
When you're standing on sloping rocks, the boot sole doesn't sideslip underneath you.
Toe Room: Merrell gives plenty of room to the toes. This room, combined with a sturdy toe box, protects the toes from getting bashed by rocks.
          Choosing Socks:
For Hiking Boots choose heavyweight, thick, dense socks, with or without a liner sock.
          For Multi-Sport choose light-or medium-weight dense socks.
Before You Take Your Merrells to the Trail:
          1) Try your new boots on over the correct sock combination without lacing.
Stand and push your toes forward so they touch the front of the boot.
You should be able to slip one finger into the space behind your heel.
If there isn't enough room, the boot is probably too small and you should try the next half-size larger.
For boots to be used while carrying a moderate-to-heavy pack, a full finger space is recommended.
          2) Tap your heel back in the heel cup and lace the boot.
The boot should feel snug across the ball, around the instep, and in the heel.
The arch should be comfortably supported and the toes should be free to wiggle and curl.
          3) To check the fit in the heel, walk up an incline. The heel should lift a maximum of 1/2 inch (1.75cm).
          4) The toes should not jam into the front of the boot.
Checkthis by walking down an incline or tap your toe lightly into the floor or against the wall. If the boot fits correctly, the toes should gently touch the end of the boot.
