Why We Like The S5 Wheelset

The Mercury S5 Road Wheels are designed for all-around performance, featuring a 50mm rim depth that boosts aerodynamics without sacrificing versatility. The refined carbon construction yields a stiff rim with responsive steering, with a bit of added compliance for rough roads. Tubeless compatibility allows you to run slightly lower pressures for improved comfort and grip, as well as increased puncture resistance.

    • Carbon fiber road wheels designed for all-around performance
    • Carbon layup finds the ideal balance of stiffness and compliance
    • 50mm rim depth offers aero gains without giving up versatility
    • Reliable Mercury sealed bearing hub with snappy engagement
    • Tubeless compatibility for increased grip and comfort
    • Hand-built in Utah by Mercury's expert wheel builders
    • Rim brake only, quick-release skewers included

    Love my S5’s!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I just upgraded my OE stock wheels on my Giant. Nice and light plus stiff. Great rolling hubs. 500 miles so far and everything is good.

Good performance but not out of the box

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

These wheels showed up massively out of dish and out of true, so much so that my tires were rubbing the sides of my brake calipers. And this is the front wheel...! I understand that rear wheels are often out of dish as a result of mounting tires, but having the front wheel dished so poorly is really surprising. Had them adjusted by my LBS and in a few weeks of riding they've come slightly out of true again. Obviously that is disappointing, because otherwise these seem to be good, reliable wheels. They're fast and have good braking for a carbon rim and overall I've enjoyed them. But spending an extra $50 right off the bat to have the wheels trued and dished to actually be fully functional was seriously disappointing.

    Excellent Performance!

I’ve had these S5 for a little over year so far with over 3400 miles with no issues. They feel really stable at high speed, yet nice and lively when I'm grinding out long efforts or climbing. Even though they are 50mm profile, they hold really steady in windy conditions. Braking is excellent. Hubs are silky smooth. Love the performance of these wheels.

    Solid wheels!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the second set of Mercury wheels I have purchased from CC and I am not disappointed, they look fantastic, roll well are great quality and value for the money.

    Overall very solid wheelset

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These wheels are a great value and very high quality.

I've owned many wheelsets over the years and usually buy custom-built wheels as I tend to break rear rims. These wheels are very well made and were perfectly true laterally and radially out of the box - better than most of the custom wheels I've had. The spokes are very tight and uniform and were stress relieved so no "pinging" noises as spokes reset on my first ride. I did have to pull some plastic wrap material out of the wheels that was left over from the manufacturing process.

They are a little heavy at 1675grams, and you can feel the weight when accelerating hard or on steep climbs, but they roll very well on flats, mild rollers, and they fly on descents!

The wheels are very stiff laterally. I have them set up tubeless with Michelin 25C Power Road tires. The interior of the rim measures around 19mm and my tires are around 27mm wide when inflated to 70psi.

Overall, I highly recommend these wheels. They are very well made, fast, stiff, comfortable and a deal at $1000!

    Impressive performance and value

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

The roads I ride are pretty abusive on wheels, bikes, and body. I'm also a heavier rider. These have taken the harshness, are still true, and feel compliant while stiff enough to transfer the power and take the turns at speed. I replaced a set of Vision Metron 55's with these and feel the Mercury S5's are as good at half the cost. The braking performance should also be mentioned, I don't worry about them, even though they are carbon rim type.

I bought a set of the S5 Disc model for one of my other bikes, because I like these that much.

    Great Value

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Good set of wheels they can take a good beating, super smooth hubs and great value for the price. Highly recommend.

    Impressive wheels!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

With over 6.5k miles on them. For me much better than my old Zipp 404 wheels. Very stiff and strong wheels. Hubs are very smooth. Riding with Michelin Pro 28m tires makes for a good combo. Great purchase.

    5 stars!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love my new S5 wheelset. First of all they are really light and sturdy. The difference between the stock wheelset and my new set is amazing. I went ahead and cycled two months before posting my review, in total 600 miles. I’ve owned Mavic and Zipp carbon wheels before and paid a lot more but I can say these wheels are just as good if not better. I am very pleased with this product not to mention they look great.

    4500 miles in a year

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 700

I've put 4.5K miles on mine and now they're toast. In putting my third set of tires on them for their lifetime, these have started delaminating and not holding air along with cracking sounds heard. Bubbling along the side rim wall from the air pressure of 90 PSI. I set up tubeless. No over pressure used, so unfortunately it isn't a user error. Customer service was contacted and have been helpful in getting it replaced. They are true to their warranty.

    4500 miles in a year

    Amazing Value!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

An upgrade to my 8 year old Trek. Wheels seem great. Nice and true out of the box.

    Great wheels and price

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The Conti 5000 TL tubeless tire - unexpectfuly lost air pressure and leak air while inflating - going with tubes - clinchers - overwise no issues

    Superb wheels!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've only had the wheels for 4 months and so far so good. They are light and very responsive. I'm 6'1" and 200 pounds and ride an older Specialized Tarmac. Using the carbon brake pads included with the purchase the breaking is firm and stable. I'm hoping for a lot of miles on them. Very happy with my purchase.

    Excellent wheels!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Best money you can spend on upgrading your bike. Have put on a 1200 miles on these in the last six months with no issues. They handled cross winds well with excellent braking. Hubs are super smooth with good engagement. Running Michelin 28c and they feel great. Highly recommend.

Great Carbon wheels - no issues

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Highly aero 50mm - beautiful finish - low weight aero wheels - impressive for the price - happy camper - recommended

    Great Performance and Price!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my 2nd set of Mercury wheels and I must say I truly enjoy these wheels. Awesome riding quality and very durable. I weigh 220 pounds and have hit some serious bumps in the road and the wheels stayed nice and straight. Build quality is off the charts. Good stiffness when climbing. Braking is excellent with no squeaking. I whole heartily would recommend S5 wheels you will not be disappointed.

    Solid Wheelset!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Upgraded my P2 bike to these wheels. I've mounted 25c Schwalbe one road tires on these wheels and they ride perfect. Extremely light and soft on the road. Just an excellent wheelset.
