    A fine beginning.

As you test your legs (and your summer training plan) out during the first hot, dusty 'cross races of the season, trust the Maxxis Speed Terrane EXO/TR Tire to keep you flying over moon dust and late-summer hardpack. With a tread pattern encrusted with micro-diamond knobs, the Speed Terrane was designed specifically to keep you accelerating on dirt that hasn't seen rain in weeks. Even if you haven't raced in months, take your first corners aggressively, knowing the Speed Terrane's offset, siped side knobs will hungrily grab onto crusty berms, and power through climbs knowing the center row of paddle knobs is working to keep you glued to the course. The start of racing season never felt so good.

    • Start 'cross season off right with this early-season tire
    • Tread profile created with dry late summer trails in mind
    • Fast-rolling 120 TPI ideal for racing
    • EXO protection defends against race-spoiling flats

Not for CX Racing...Not 33mm As Claimed

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small

I picked this up as a hold over since there were not a lot of CX tires available when I was in need. I thought maybe I'd find a new go to tire in the Speed Terrane but, not so.
    The Good:
    - Mounted and inflated fairly easily. Needed the compressor but that was it.
    - Traction on dirt and gravel in a straight line and climbing.

    The Bad:
    - Hard cornering and leaning in. It's just too narrow to hold it's line. I had a real 33
diamond/file tread in the front and with this in the rear position the backend would break
    loose before the front.
    - The narrower size offers a rough ride.

This would work as a narrow gravel tire where tight cornering isn't an issue. But as a true cyclocross tire it falls short mainly due to it's lack of width.

    This is my second set

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I put about 1,554 miles on the last set. It would have lasted another 50 but I ran over some thorn and punctured the front. Anyway, I ride mostly road mixed in with some dirt (65/35). It'™s pretty versatile and fast. Not great traction on very loose dirt but I’d buy this again and again and again.

    De laminating Maxxis

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My second Speed Terrane (front) has now started to de laminate similar to what the rear did. the rear had approximately 12 bumps protruding when i replaced it. The front now has 1 bump that is 3/8

I bought two of these tires from BC and experienced the same thing. One of them had less than 200 miles on it mostly on road. I wonder if the Maxxis warranty covers this? I’m going to email them.

I also had the delamination issue

I wrote a review with high praise of the tire, but a few months in, had to get a new tire due to bubbles appearing on the surface like the review above. Would not recommend this one.

    Speedy with decent cornering

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great rear tire for dryer conditions. The small side lugs allow for more aggressive cornering than an all out file-tread pattern. The mini-diamond tread down the center is fast but can slip around a tad.

Wear has been relatively impressive for times when it double-duties as a commuter tire.

TL;DR Great dry weather racing tire.
