Voluminous control for technical trails.
3/10ths of an inch wider than a traditional 2.3-inch trail tire, the Maxxis Rekon EXO/TR 29 x 2.6 in Tire maximizes your grip and control when you're plunging into steep, rocky trails and railing around sweeping corners at high speeds. Seeing it's 2.6 inches wide, you can drastically lower the tire pressure in tubeless configuration to gain loads of traction and bump compliance on the trail. Although it's wider than normal, it doesn't feel as squishy and vague as a plus-sized tire in the range of 2.8 to 3.0 inches.
The Rekon emulates the fast-rolling speed of the XC-inspired Ikon, but it's beefed up with wide knobs down the middle for additional control under heavy braking and L-shaped side knobs to keep you stable while cornering at high speeds. As you'd expect from a tire of this pedigree, it's developed to setup in tubeless configuration, so you can gain the benefits of running lower pressures, plus self-sealing reassurance if you happen to run over a sharp rock or thorn.
This particular Rekon features a tried-and-true dual compound for fast-rolling efficiency down the middle and cornering grip along the side knobs. To ensure it's ready for aggressive trail thrashings, EXO sidewall protection ensures peace of mind while riding aggressively on notoriously rocky trails where sidewall abrasion and cuts are common.
- 2.6in width provides increased bump compliance and grip
- Not a plus-sized tire, so it doesn't feel squishy and vague
- Dual compound for fast-rolling efficiency and cornering grip
- EXO sidewall protection against cuts, slits, and abrasion
- Tubeless-ready casing allows you to run lower pressures
Great Large Tire for 29er
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I have the Rekon mounted as a rear tire on my 31 mm rim. Lots of tread and plenty of traction. I opted for the 60 TPI rather than the 120 TPI model based on the greater durability that 60 TPI provides. I run these tires tubeless at around 25 psi rear.
