    Minion DHF Wide Trail EXO/TR Tire

    Somewhere between plus-sized and XC-skinny, between puncture-prone garbage and prohibitively expensive race tires, there is a happy trail rubber medium. We call that place the 27.5in Maxxis Minion DHF Wide Trail EXO/TR Tire. The Minion WT is 2.5in wide, so it doesn't have the prohibitive clearance issues that plague 3in plus-size tires, and it's got a hit of sidewall protection to keep it rolling through all-mountain terrain.

    Despite not measuring in the 2.8in range, the Minion WT still accommodates the current trend of wider rims with a tread pattern designed to sit fat without the risk of the shoulder knobs migrating onto the center rolling surface — a distinct possibility with narrower tires mounted on wide rims. This preserves the rolling speed and cornering grip that keeps us coming back to the dual-compound Minion party, and makes the DHF model's reliability on soggy trails that much more appealing.

    Sitting fat also equates to more air volume, which in turn makes for a plusher, less flat-prone, and higher traction ride — all of which properties are further boosted by running the Minion tubeless. This particular Minion also features Maxxis' EXO cut- and abrasion-resistant sidewalls, which are supple enough to maintain trail feel but tough enough to take a rocky beating so you don’t end up with sliced rubbers while shredding some pointy rocks and sharp-edged drops.

    I’m on my third DHF WT and will continue buying them.
    Confidence inspiring front tire that has saved my bacon in loose and hard pack conditions when I thought I was going to slide out. The side knobs grip and the center knobs roll. Being a WT (wide trail) 2.5 width, it has ample bite to keep you upright and to direct you through loose terrain.
    Have ridden over softball sized loose rocks to redrock and it performs well in just about any condition that you throw at it.
    I’ve had mine mounted on 30mm rims (Easton Arc 30)
    as well as 27mm (Easton Arc 27). I like it best with the 27mm combo.

    Once I tried this tire last year I was sold on it. It provides a ton of grip and I have found that the side wall does not give away like some other brands I have tried. They are super durable and make riding down hills that much more fun. If you are looking for a new set of tires or just one tire I would check these ones out for sure!!

    I have run this tire on my front tire for several years now. Usually lasts me about a year with constant riding. Work great on all conditions, grip on the way down but still ascend well. Work well in tacky dirt and dry loose stuff, corners like a dream.

    There's a good chance I'm missing out by not trying other stuff... but man, Maxxis tires seem to just always work how I want them too. This thing is no different, a perfect all around trail riding tire for those who want something pretty big and meaty, but not totally overkill. I ride mostly loose on top of hard pack, transitioning to moon dust around this time of year. I used to rock the DHR in the rear, but this season I went DHF front and back and have been pretty pleased with it. I have a new bike as well so it feels like it pedals better, but I couldn't actually say for sure if it's the tire doing anything. What I definitely do like about the setup, though, is that it feels ever more predictable now having the same tire front and back. Well technically I have the triple compound in the front for slightly more traction actually. I'm guessing I am foregoing some braking traction compared to the DHR, but hasn't been a big problem.

      I've always been a big fan of the DHF, and the trend of wider rims combined with the updated WT version only improved this classic.

      Like others have mentioned, 2.5 DHF is a great mid wide tire that offers a lot of grip but wont slow you down too much Running as the front tire on my 2018 5010 with a 2.4 in the back.

      Light, grippy and nimble. These tires corner like a dream and usually last me a full year of heavy riding. Tread grips on the downs but still pedals like a dream on the ups.

      Along with the masses here, you just cannot beat the Minion. I have gone through a few of these and they are great. I REALLY like the 2.5 inch front. If you have not dared to try the 2.5 width, do it. It really helps traction in corners and going down, without giving up any performance like the 2.8 and 3.0 tires do.

      I love Minion tires The DHF tire rolls fast, is not too heavy and offers amazing cornering traction. If you prize braking traction over speed, I would grab the DHR II instead, but for the weight, speed and traction complete package, this tire is a top choice. There are a reason that even athletes sponsored by competing companies will run these tires with blacked out graphics.
      They are dependable and they work.

      I would highly recommend going to the Double Down Casing if you are riding sharp rocky terrain, particularly as a rear tire. But the standard EXO casing is tough enough for average riding.

      I typically ride dry, loose over hard pack, Utah trails.

      Maxxis Minions, in my opinion, are one of the greatest tire of all time- especially the DHF. The tread pattern grips extremely well across the board. You will corner with absolute confidence and never have any issues with braking traction.

      The knobs are aggressive but they are ramped at the front and flat on top so these tires roll pretty well considering their weight.

      These tires are a bit heavy but it's worth the sacrifice if you are looking for maximum grip in all conditions: loose, hard pack, and even slop/mud. They are best for hard pack to loose/dry conditions, but do fairly well in wet conditions.

      This is the Wide Trail (WT) version, optimized for rims with 30mm internal width. You can still fit them to standard rims maybe down to 25-27mm internal width but the tire profile is a bit more rounded.

      Beefy Wide Tire for Wide Rims

      Threw this as my front tire on my Mojo 3. The wheelset I have on the Mojo 3 is the Ibis 742's which have a 41mm outer / 35mm inner rim width, pretty much the ideal rim that these tires were designed for.


      - Chunky Tires that you can trust just laying into corners on. I've ripped XC singletrack, flowy berms, and a bit of DH chunk and these have been confidence inspiring on all.

      - They're say wide, but not bigger than 2.5". The tire profile is designed to work with wide rims. Its sorta a chubby tire, but definitely would not call it even close to what plus size tires are.

      - Rubber seems soft and grips great (have heard they do even better in wet environment, think PNW) but seems to have held up in terms of durability so far. I can be notoriously rough on my tires and the sidewalls on these haven't even been scuffed yet.


      - I cannot emphasize how much of a pain it was to get the tire on the rim. Seriously. I am hoping these are as durable as they seem, I will not be a happy camper if i have to take these on/off on the regular.

      - Not exactly the fastest rolling, but I didn't buy these with that intention.

      My rim is 25mm od not 35 as the max the tire is designed for. The tire is a bit of work to bead up the first time but worth any effort. I ride soft and sometimes soft and wet dirt with rocks galore. The gripp is endless. The cornering amazing. Lay the bike on its side and it keeps a line. It doesn't try to climb out of ruts on its own like a narrow sidewall tire might. It just tracks true and grips. You will notice a lot of rolling resistance on the flats and hills. This isn't easy to push around like the 2.3 but the added stability is worth the effort. I have ridden it on 30 mile rides on dirt roads and loved it.... just won't break any speed records, accept down hill. Buy it, ride it, you will love it too!
