Aspen EXO/TR Tire

Minimal rolling resistance, light, and race ready, the Maxxis Aspen EXO/TR 29in Tire is hungry to gobble up miles of rolling singletrack at top speeds. Affirming that wagon-wheels are the true dominators of cross-cross country, the Aspen packs in low-profile directional lugs in the center tread for rocketing on the straightaways, and aggressive side lugs that keep the confidence high when you barrel into corners. A high-volume casing helps to smooth out rock gardens and jarring root lattices, while EXO protection works to shield you from side punctures. The dual-compound construction means you've got hard, fast-rolling rubber in the center to keep you at top speeds, and extra grip on the sides that keeps you locked into loose berms.

All-around XC goodness

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

My thoughts on the Aspen are pretty simple. No other tire that is this fast or this grippy will last quite as long. If you need to run a reliable tire on your go-fast bike, you won't go wrong with the Aspen. Schwalbe and Specialized make some tires that feel great and roll quick, but they don't last nearly as long as the Aspen's do.

First XC tire...hesitant to try others..

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I got these on my 2019 Santa Cruz Blur and had some slide outs the first few times I rode them, probably a combination of the new bike and new tires. But ever since then, these have been awesome on hardpack like we generally have in Ohio. I even used them out in Arizona on Slim Shady/Llama when my other bike was locked in a storage unit and they held up fine. I'm now at 1100 miles on these tires with 0 flats (and they honestly don't feel like they've lost much grip at all), and I'm due to get some new tires...just not sure I want to try any others now that I've found the limits of these. On the other hand, if you ever ride in the wet, these are terrible...but that's not what they're made for. Overall very happy with the speed and durability. For reference I have no idea what pressures I run them at (probably low 20s)...it's pretty much all by feel, because if you have too much air, you'll know it. Normally I just make sure I can't touch the rim of the back wheel when pushing on my hand with all of my body weight, and then a bit less in the front since there's generally less weight up there. They've taken some hard hits, rock abrasions, and rim strikes with no problems.
