From BC to CO.

Whether you're plodding through pillow lines in British Columbia or snaking through tight trees in Colorado, the Marmot Men's Whitecliff Jacket offers hard-wearing versatility and protection. This technical shell features a waterproof, breathable MemBrain construction that protects you from precipitation and moisture, while the fully taped seams further safeguard you from snow. Not to mention, the powder skirt bolster your defense against flushed powder and precarious tumble rolls.

Additionally, the Whitecliff is equipped with core vents for on-the-go temperature regulation, meaning you're able to dump excess heat quickly. The hood is entirely removable for a customized look or protection, and the hem and cuffs are fully adjustable for a personalized fit and feel. And of course, no jacket would be complete without a bevvy of pockets—choose from the chest, hand, or interior pockets to accommodate all the snacks and supplies to make your day on the mountain, well, fun.

The Good & Bad of the Whitecliff

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

Good:
Fits True to size.
Cuff secure well & work great with under the cuff gloves.
Lots of Pockets.
Solid wind & weather protection.
Powder skirt.
Great material.
Removable hood.

Bad:
Chest pockets are secured by velcro only.
No mesh in the pit vents.
No two way zips on the vents.
Interior media pocket is undersized.
The pockets are undersized.
Powder skit isn't zip off, nor does it stow out of the way.

Generally, I would say this coat hits close to the mark. I bought it as my daily driver coat and I have no doubt it will perform. I just think Marmot cut several corners. It is almost as if they had the check list of a great ski jacket, hit all the checks but skipped the finishing touches that move things from good to great. All of these things can be worked around, but it feels like "myriad of pockets" & look was valued well over function.
