While some may see "chance of rain" as a sign to cancel the day's hike, the Marmot Men's PreCip Jacket sees it as an invitation. It offers waterproof, breathable performance and a packable design to make it ideal for everything from treks in unpredictable weather to errands around town on a rainy day.

The NanoPro fabric provides complete protection from the elements while still allowing heat and moisture vapor to escape, keeping you from getting soaked with sweat when you're slogging your way up a hill. If you're still feeling too warm, you can open up the zippered underarm vents for instant cooling relief. You've got Marmot's signature Angel-Wing Movement design for uninhibited movement that won't cause your jacket to ride up, and accessible Pack Pockets that are placed higher to accommodate a backpack or harness.

  • Breathable weather protection that won't let you down
  • NanoPro fabric offers waterproofing that won't pack heat
  • Angel-Wing Movement allows free and comfortable mobility
  • Zippered underarm vents expel excess heat
  • Pack Pockets can be accessed with backpack or harness
  • DriClime-lined chin guard eliminates chafing
  • Hood rolls up into collar when you don't need it
  • Packs into own pocket for easy storage

Great Jacket

  • Fit: True to size

I purchased the Marmot Precip jacket to use as a light, outer shell during the winter months. It is perfect for the winter and use this jacket during windy and snowy days. It is light and backpacks easily. I especially like the underarm zippers which helps when X-skiing. I highly recommend this jacket.

Brilliant Orange for visibility

This raincoat is fine for conditions when it is not hot outside. The material is not Goretex, so don't expect it to breath well. There are pit zips as I recall. I use this raincoat on backpacking trips when I need rain protection and hopefully the weather is not too hot. The quality and fit is good for me.

Perfect addition for the PNW. This jacket crushed everything Seattle had to offer. Stayed dry.

Nice jacket

This jacket saved me from some terrible wind and rain out in the desert a few weeks ago, I had a ton of layers on underneath this as well.

Yes.

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

bought as birthday gift for boyfriend. his review: "It fits well. Has additional coverage where you need it: the collar is large until you need to cover your face from sideways rain, and the sleeves run a little long until you need to keep your paws dry."

Perfect value

Feedback from a close friend attending Ole Miss: I have loved the Precip jacket. For me, living in Mississippi, it has the perfect combination of waterproofing and breathability. It won’t suffocate you or make you sweat, but it does great at breaking wind and shielding you from water. Very handsome jacket as well. Fits in a somewhat bulky fit , extra long sleeves are the only thing that I found to be abnormal.

It's a nice jacket!

The precip is comparable to North face's Venture jacket, and maybe not as nice as Patagonia's Torrentshell, but it's a superb casual shell for light-moderate rain/snow. The collar doesn't play nice with long hair, but the fact that you can hide the hood does come in handy quite often, which you wouldn't really consider when it's raining and you want the hood. It's fit is a little boxy, but that's perfect for wearing an insulated mid underneath, I'd say this is one of the best day-to-day jackets, especially for it's price!

Solid inexpensive rain jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This is a great rain jacket if you are not looking to break the bank. As others have said, it is not the most breathable, but it does at least come with underarm vents.

Does the job

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

It's a pretty light weight jacket that does the job. It's not too good on breathability though.

Nice

  • Fit: Runs large

It meets my expected.

Poor Breathability

The jacket worked for the first few times I wore it. Then it started taking on water like a sinking ship. It also does not breath at all. This product completely let me down. I contacted Marmot twice and they never replied back to me. Terrible company.

It does its job

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I really liked the jacket, but have sense moved on from it. It is really light and packs down really small, but i really really dislike the neck cover. It is super weird and not very comfortable. It keeps off the rain pretty well, but its not gonna keep it all out if you are exposed for a long time. Overall it's a good rain jacket and i would recommend it to maybe beginner backpackers.

Killer rain shield

Bought this jacket on on sale before a big winter hunting trip in Utah. I wanted the piece of mind of a water tight shell that didn’t take up any excess room or weight. Packed up nicely in an auxiliary pocket and wouldn’t ya know it, first day dumped rain for hours. Super happy I had this jacket to keep me dry. Honestly I wasn’t wet at all and my buddy was drenched without a rain shell so I’d say it worked perfectly

    This Sucks

This rain coat sucks. I bought it after seeing so many positive reviews, but those people must have worn garbage bags before. It is uncomfortable (for some reason the neck is like six inches high) and doesn’t breathe at all. Also, the hood in the collar looks lame.

Hey Cheryl! Sorry to hear the PreCip jacket didn't work out for you, thats a bummer. I would be happy to get a free return label out to you so we can get your refund issued. Feel free to email me at elharrison@backcountry.com. Hope you have a great day!

Why did you buy it then? The collar is clearly shown in the pictures.

A solid light shell for a wet day

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large

This is a reliable outer shell for daily use in the rain; however, the jacket is a bit light, so don't expect to rely on this layer for cooler temperatures or heavy rains. The fit is a little baggy, but I would still recommend this jacket.

Dryest, yet not ugly, rain jacket

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

This is a rain jacket that my hip teenager son still likes to wear. It keeps him completely dry, but still cool and looking good.

It’s more then a rain jacket.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
