Novus Hooded Jacket

This lightweight synthetic softshell by Marmot is made for hiking the dog on snowy trails and building snow forts in the yard for the kiddos. The Novus Hoodie is made with an active synthetic insulation and AirExchange lining to support breathability and ventilation when you work up your heart rate. It's stretchy soft shell construction provides ample flexibility for paying in the snow with the dogs or the kids, while the elastic hood and hem protect your ears and back from cold drafts. For easy traveling and storing in a backpack, stuff the jacket in it's internal pocket for the days when you don't trust the forecast.

  • Lightweight, insulated softshell for winter activity
  • Synthetic insulation ideal for activity in snowy conditions
  • Breathable lining supports ventilation to help prevent over heating
  • Stretch shell fabric supports flexible mobility
  • Elastic hood and hem helps block out cold air

Marmot Novus XL

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

A excellent fitted jacket for cool weather adventures. Very warm, repels light rain, trim fit and rolls up in the inside pocket. The hood does not have an adjustable feature, but it’s not bulky. The neck closure provides enough room to fit comfortably.
The Novus compares favorably with my Arcteryx Atom LT. The Novus is warmer, it does not have side panels and retains more heat. There are many uses for the jacket outdoors and traveling, very soft and stretches well. An excellent purchase on sale!!

Favorite jacket yet!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I love this jacket! I was looking at arc'teryx atoms until I saw this jacket. I've worn the atom and it's safe to say this jacket is just as good if not better I think. The ripstop stretch shell was my selling point! I've seen atoms snag on granite and vegetation but this jackets ripstop holds strong. Love this jacket and would highly recommend it!

The one...

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

Finally found the one...The all around jacket that fits great. I went with a size up (XL) due to the athletic fit. It has room if needed and fits great with light layered clothing. It is warm but breathable and appears to be good quality. I tried several other brands and styles and this ended my search. This is perfect for our mild climate in the South.

Very specific uses due to design flaw

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

I bought this as a lightweight but warm outer layer when a hard shell isn't needed. It's warmer than one might expect. I found the fit to be perfect - ample sleeve and torso length, not too loose/tight. A modern and athletic fit as advertised. If you have a large belly this isn't for you. Stretch is sufficient and it looks great on. However, the sleeves are lined with a soft material which causes shirt sleeves to migrate up when you put on the jacket. I know this materials is used to wick away moisture but I found it very annoying. The material makes a great interior liner, just not in the sleeves. This jacket would be great over tight under-layers or short-sleeve shirts when you anticipate a sweaty hike on a cold day without precip. Not a great mid-layer due to zipper and hood. Hard to justify keeping it for such a specific use, so I returned it.

A do-it-all midweight insulator

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

Even though it says 40g of insulation, the Novus keeps me warmer than any 40g jacket I've had. It feels closer to 60-80. The Novus is sleek and simply designed, and is usually the first jacket I pull out of my closet. It's very comfortable to wear, and has a flattering athletic cut that's not too boxy while still gives plenty of room to layer a fleece or other mid-layer underneath. Save some bones while not looking like everyone else wearing the dead bird in the office and slopes and give the Novus a shot. You'll love it!

Sounds like we have the same build/weight. Is the small tight or do you have room? Also, any idea what the low temperature range is for comfort?

How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Measure around the thickest part of your neck, holding tape loosely.
Measure from the center of your back to your wrist with arms held out.
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
