Marmot Lair 8 Tent: 8-Person 4-Season
MarmotLair 8 Tent: 8-Person 4-Season

A high-elevation lair.

Marmot made the Lair 8-Person 4-Season Tent for mountaineers who need a large, bomber shelter to provide a comfortable haven during base camp storms. Not only does this 10-pole tent provide plenty of stability in strong winds and heavy snow, but it also includes a massive vestibule to cover gear. Marmot made the floor removable, so you don't destroy it when you have to pitch the Lair 8 Tent on rocky ground or when you just don't want to worry about spills in the kitchen.

Marmot equipped the Lair with its Window Weld technology, so you can check the status of the storm in the early morning of the hours, before you commit to heading up the mountain. Fully taped seams and a waterproof PU/silicone coating effectively seal out driving snow and wind, while multiple vents allow heat and condensation to escape whether you're cooking up another round of quinoa-infused quesadillas or your climbing partners just happen to be a bunch of heavy mouth-breathers.

  • Spacious base camp tent for mountaineering and arctic expeditions
  • Spacious design comfortably accommodates up to eight people
  • Fully seam taped fly with waterproof PU/silicone coating
  • Multiple vents let accumulated heat and condensation escape
  • Single, poled vestibule stores gear and withstands high winds
  • Removable floor allows snow to be dug out beneath the tent
  • Interior pockets store small pieces of gear
  • Light-reflective guyout points with jingle-free zippers

is there any chance of using this tent in a NY/PA/NJ summer (not Greenland) or is this a straight hotbox?

Hi,

this is a heavy duty 4 season base camp tent built to withstand gnarly mountain storms. that being said it could work in your area but it will probably be way too hot. it has some vents, and you could leave the door open and make it work. but you will probably be more comfortable in some kind of 3 season tent that has mesh in the ceiling

With a removable floor, how does the Lair stand-up to a torrential downpour?

Marmot totally thought of that...make it rain.

I now have the cabela alaska. It has proven it self time and time again. I want a larger tent of super quality and larger than I have now. This tent does not show any windows and in comparison to the alaskan tent how much bigger inside will i have.

With the Mountain Lair 8 you would gain 45 sq. ft. more floor space & 16" more interior height over the Alaskan Guide.

How much does this tent wheigh and estimate time to put up.

It weighs 26 lbs. & two people, after practice, could set it up in eight minutes. Four people could cut that time in half.
