- Q & A
Wish It Fit Me
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: Large
I am 6' and 210 (max weight) and athletic build. The L fit me in the chest and shoulders but too tight in the stomach/waist area. A tee shirt would have been the most I could wear under it. I returned it knowing an XL would be too large. I seem to be a tweener on this item. Otherwise, I wish it fit better because the look and quality was exactly what I was looking for. Just reviewing for others trying to determine online sizing.
What's the center back length on say XXL?
Too big for me!!
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: Large
When back in Argentina I discovered that it was for a giant. Too big for Large.
I can't return it. Hope to be refunded.
I am looking for Ski Vest that will be warm but not bulky . I would wear it underneath a Columbia Titanium Shell I have . I gave up a heavy ski jacket with inner jacket zipped in in order to ski with not as much weight. I am looking for ski vest . I don't want fleece, is theier another material say Marmot softshell vest that is warm too. Also do the sizes run bigger or not. I am usually buy medium shirts, do I need medium or small. also what is your return policy if something does not fit
This is a great option, a bit warmer and more substantial than a fleece vest. Also, you could do a light down vest - http://www.backcountry.com/marmot-zeus-down-vest-mens?s=a or http://www.backcountry.com/marmot-ajax-down-vest-mens?s=a Marmot runs pretty true to size so if you are normally a medium, stay there. BC return policy is if you don't like it, you can return it with tags on and get a full refund. Good luck!
Fits Like A Glove
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
I'm really liking this piece, especially for the price. I find it very well-made, and it fits me like a glove in size M. Bear in mind I'm 5'7", 180, 41 inch chest and 33 inch waist.
It's a nice outer layer on cooler days, and it makes for a solid layering piece when the temperatures start dipping from cooler into cold.
Aesthetically, it looks quite good around the office and town. It would not be out of place until you start hanging out in fairly formal environs.
A Bit Small-ish
I am a big guy. 6'4" 290 lb. I got the 2XL in grey. Most of my "extra" is around my gut. The nice was that it was tall enough for me, but when zipped-up it was basically skin-tight. I have the Windwall by The North Face and wear it all the time, and it fits my body type much better. I am planing on sending it back.
Love Marmot, but the fit was a little shapeless and the color was a little bit off for my eye. Well made. Haven't decided whether to keep it or not.
UPDATE (2012-10-27): decided to return, the green is more of a hunter green, not a midnight green (i.e. it seems too bright to my eyes.) I upped the rating to 4/5 because it's a great shell, and the color shouldn't ding it.

Is this vest zip-in compatible with Marmot Palisades jacket?
Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, the Marmot Approach Softshell Vest will not zip in to the Marmot Palisades jacket. The Marmot Cauldron Insulated Vest can though, and it is available on Backcountry.com right now.

How water resistent is it? I ran a 1/2 marathon in fracking monsoon today and well, let's say I got wet...reallly wet. I'd like to get vest that can stand up during these conditions/lengths of time. If this doesn't work, can you suggest another one that will?
What makes you think a soft shell vest would keep you dry during extended actual rain? It's an insulation piece with water and wind resistant properties.
I suppose you're also upset that your arms got wet?
There aren't a lot of waterproof vests, unfortunately,or even short sleeved jackets. Your best bet for racing is to get a waterproof, breathable shell. Mountain Hardwear has their Dry.Q Material that does very well. Other brands also have some great new materials that breathe well. I know a full on jacket isn't optimal for a road race, but it may be better than nothing if a person doesn't want to get wet.
hey, i'm a cyclist/hiker i bought marmot precip line of rain gear, jacket, pants, hat, for power hikes in the rain and snow. real nice great price point, lite weight. so i then bought a precip jacket and cut the sleeves off and made a waterproof vest for a good price. not the best option but it works
If you run a half marathon in anything tight enough to keep water out, you will be soaking wet from sweat.
