Mammut Realization Short - Men's Harness

Drop everything and go climbing.

Mammut integrated a high-performance harness inside the Men's Realization Short so you can go sport climbing at a moment's notice. This harness utilizes the same Split Webbing technology found on all of Mammut's best harnesses. Split Webbing technology separates the harness's webbing into two strands that ride over and under your hips in order to reduce weight, increase ventilation, and practically eliminate the necessity of padding without hindering your comfort or safety.

The shorts have the same closure as most board shorts while the harness features an innovative closure that allows you to fully adjust both the waist and leg loops for your comfort. Two tie-in points rest horizontally to one another in order to keep you comfy during casual occasions without compromising the harness's strength. The shorts resist abrasion, offer a full range of motion, and feature two gear loops, a chalk bag attachment, a slide-in pocket for brushes, and two front and two back pockets.

  • Split Webbing technology
  • Surf-style tie and drawcord closures
  • Adjustable leg loops
  • Two gear loops
  • Chalk bag attachment and brush holder
  • Abrasion-resistant shorts with elastic insert
  • Two front and two back pockets
  • Washable up to 104°F

Love the idea of these and gave a pair as a gift, they love them!

I'm 30"inch waist & I'm using Mammut Harness in Size S, what size should I take on this Realization short?

That small should fit perfect still!

Feel free to hit me up at bporreca@backcountry.com or 801-736-6398.

It looks like there's a zipper pocket above the right rear pocket, but it makes no mention of this. Can someone confirm the existence of this pocket, and say if it's big enough for a smartphone?

Best Answer

Yes there is a zippered pocket and it should fit your smartphone

I'm 5' 10" and about 200Lbs and measure at 38 inches at my waist so would need an extra large according to the size chart?

Would that be correct and does Mammut make these in an XL ?

Unfortunately Mammut does not make this in an XL which would be your size.

Mammut Climbing Gear: Realization Shorts

mammutvideo:

The sports climbing harness has evolved -- Mammut's Realization shorts are the first combined climbing harness and shorts. The shorts offer top performance as both a harness and an item of clothing: optimal comfort, thanks to the Mammut Split Webbing (patent pending) integrated in the waistband, and inner shorts allowing maximum freedom of movement thanks to a combination of lightweight and stretchable materials. The shorts are revolutionizing classic climbing harnesses and introducing a completely new look in climbing.

Hey Bri,

Just like how you feed your rope through the double loops to climb you will feed be carabiner through the double loops to belay.

Great item!!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The price you pay for it is not the cheapest, but you also get a great climbing short with it, which, in fact, would cost you a bit more. I have used my realization shorts more than 50 times and have washed it several times. It feels great during the climb and also to hang around on the base of the route or on a walk through the crag. There is no need to take it off during the day, it is pretty confortable. The two gear loops are just fine for sport climbing. You can put up to 14/16 draws on them. The brush holder is awesome! The short's material is very good and it looks very resistant. Not a single complain so far. It is also great for indoors.

Has anyone gone upside down in these things?...

Has anyone gone upside down in these things?

Seems slightly worrisome that the only thing keeping the shorts tight to the climbers waist is a small rubber draw cord adjuster..

Hey Colby,

When on rope the draw cord adjuster isn't really doing much to keep you secure. Its the act of being tied into the double loops that keeps you in. Keep it tight and you should be fine.

Have gone upside down, scary at first but been safe every time.

These shorts are an expensive harness but if you have the $$ you won't be disappointed. I am itching to try these on a long climb (I have been hampered by bad weather since i got these bad boys) but the comfort is second to none. I have worn these all day just as normal shorts/bouldering and I can barely even notice the harness, even while sitting. I will update this review after some extended time on the wall, but so far these are 10/10.

After extended use and time on the wall I can confirm these are the most comfortable harness I have ever owned and they are very durable.

Does anyone know if you can take out the harness to look for wear and damage to the actual harness?

You cannot remove the harness so to speak, only turn the shorts inside out. There would be no real damage that could occur to the harness though, as it is protected by the shorts and the belay/tie in loops are exposed.
