Mammut Nano 8 Rappel Device
MammutNano 8 Rappel Device

Ultralight device that gets the job done better than most.

Mammut designed the lightweight Nano 8 Rappel Device to accommodate very low diameter ropes for ski tourers and alpine climbers. The special design and shape allow different braking strengths for adjusting your speed better.

can u say keychain..

totally bummed as its too small to use a real rope with it, maybe some crazy small twine.. 13mm rope wont fit properly

The literal description of this device is: "Mammut designed the lightweight Nano 8 Rappel Device to accommodate very low diameter ropes for ski tourers and alpine climbers."

You climb on 13mm? 13mm barely fits in my tube types, I usually have to use a belay plate for anything bigger than 12. We used to climb on old fixed lines in the Sierras and my ATS plate was the only thing that fit until I got an old tube from an old climber. YMMV

    Great Light Weight Rappel Device

Perfect way to lighten up your gear while providing the protection you need for your descent. Added hook is great for adding friction and slowing your descent with smaller diameter rope.

      For playing with small strings

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

When using undersized ropes for rappelling this is the best device imaginable. the standard figure 8 is great for lowering ones self, however the added hook allows for the user to apply more friction without a second device. It also allows for easy mid rap tie offs. If you hike/explore with a skinny rope in your bag for the just in case scenario this is the perfect light weight compliment to it.

I've seen several references to this device working best with thinner rope. How thin are we talking? I use Petzl's Mambo (10.1mm), and am basically looking for a lightweight backup rappel device. Think this fits the bill?

      Unanswered Question

Will this work well for a double strand rappel with an 8mm rope (Beal Rando)? Or is it too small?

what size ropes does this work with? it says low diameter, but how high does it go?

      Tyler,

This has a range of 4.0mm to 11.0mm for ropes.
