Poor quality

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I bought these for my ten-year-old. They are his second pair of climbing shoes in the last year. His first pair (La Sportiv), he outgrew. The Mad Monkey were very comfortable, but after climbing three days a week at our indoor gym they are already worn through after less than two and a half months. We’re very disappointed, he has loved them, and I’m not excited to be spending money on shoes again so quickly. I’ve emailed the company, hopefully they’ll reimburse me.

My niece loves them!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I got the size 8 for my niece’s second birthday. They were too big but she can grow into them and hopefully will fit by the time she’s actually climbing in a year or two.

Great all around shoe

I got these shoes as a first climbing shoes for my 8 year old daughter. She used them for tge first time at our local indoor climbing wall and did amazing. We took her out to Red Rock Canyon in Colorado Springs this weekend for some friction climbing, repelling and few 5.4-5.8 climbs and she felt super confident in them. She wore them all afternoon and was really comfortable to a point she didn't want to take them off. I love the big velcro closure because she has very narrow feet and this keeps them snug and the heel strap is great as the kids feet grow. Great first shoe for any little climbers getting into the sport.

Awesome!! My son is 9, daughter is 8 (looks very much alike), just getting them into climbing.

      Cool Climber

Great shoe, bought for a gift for my friend's little climber who has wider, very athletic feet (4 yrs old). They weren't as comfortable as his previous ones (La Sportiva Stickit FriXion RS Climbing Shoe) and took a little more break-in time where the previous ones he could wear pretty much out of the box. Still a great shoe but keep that in mind if you little one has wider feet.

My 4 year old loves his climbing shoes! They're sticky enough for indoors and outdoors, a little flexible but I think the little feet wouldn't want something too stiff. I bought a size 11 for my 4 year old, who's only wearing a size 9 right now, but a pair of socks and the second adjustment on the heel and they work quite well with plenty of room to grow. For the price, these can't be beat for fast growing toddler feet.

      easy breezy

I got a pair of these for each of my boys and they love them. Very easy to take on and off and, while not overly technical, they are comfortable and work great. I sized up so we could get longer use out of the shoes and they have held up very well to the rough and tumble ways of two boys climbing and bouldering and generally running around like crazy!

      easy breezy

      Sweet kicks

Got these for my son to use at the gym. So much better than rentals and my son gets stoked to have his own gear. Got them so he can grow into them. Of course they are nothing aggressive, but the sole is perfect for all those crazy smears he does. We are both happy with these shoes

Good for the price, but soft

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

I bought these shoes because they were dirt cheap, and with the way my kids feet grow, I knew they wouldn't be in them long. The rubber is grippy enough, but the soles are quite flexible making very small foot hold difficult for my kids. So for the price I give them 5 stars; for the softness I give them 3 -- average = 4 stars.

      Perfect

Got these in size 11 for my four year old. He outgrew the la sportive stickit (the only company making a toddler 8/9) and as far as I can tell these are just as good and less expensive. He doesn't complain about any pressure points or rubbing. They are adjustable for length and have sticky rubber. a+

      Best of the bunch

We just got my son his

second pair of these. The adjustable heal and big velcro make it for a great fit. They fit true to size. Plus, he loves them and wears them around the house as he practices his 'parkour'. So I guess they double as indoor parkour shoes for kindergartners. Bonus.

      Great shoe - Fair price

My daughter started climbing in a second hand pair of these shoes. They held up well until she outgrew them. We looked at the options and decided to buy another pair of Mad Rock Mad Monkeys again.

The shoe is well built and durable. As stated, our daughter was not the first to use her first pair and outgrew before wearing them out. Being that she is now only 6, we sized her current pair a little big. Not being super aggressive nor weighing very much, a little bigger works well and will allow her room to grow and get more use out of them. The velcro helps tighten things up along with a pair of socks for now.

I don't have experience with other brands of kids shoes; but, the reviews I have read, and my own experience, lead to this shoe being a well built and durable kids shoe.

I would recommend this shoe to any friend climbing with kids.

Anna is now 6 and climbs indoors and outdoors. First day in them, she did get rubbed below her ankle bone. I assume this is due to my sizing them a little large. The issue was easily remedied with a band-aid. No problems since. She loves them.

        Best kid's rock shoe

We love this kid's shoe. It performs well, but mostly it costs less than all the competitors. And as a parent, that matters...cause my kid's feet grow too fast. The updated heel velcro works well to customize fit. This allowed me to buy them big and get more miles out of them. I can fit a size 11 on my 3 yr old (size 8t foot) or my 5 yr old son (size 11t foot). It is big on the younger child, but they aren't climbing hard enough for it to matter.

Rubber is decently sticky and stiff foot bed really helps them versus just climbing in a tennis shoe.

If I could change anything, I'd re-work the velcro. Seems silly, but the velcro is so large and strong, my kids often cannot get it undone. And when you have three kids climbing...it is nice not to HAVE TO help with shoes. Also my oldest daughter has a narrow foot, I have trouble getting the velcro tight enough. I think they would be made even better if there were two velcro straps on the tongue, allowing for an even more custom fit.

          Best kid's rock shoe

          fantastic kids shoe

got these for my 6yr old stepson over the summer right before a trip to rmnp...he loved them! not super duper sticky but just right for a kid. he held his own on his first trip up to lumpy ridge and cant wait to go back!!

          Very Nice So Far

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My stepson and I started climbing in the gym but I could see he was struggling with his street shoes &/or socks. I got these for him and we could see an immediate improvement in his footwork and abilities. I got these in his regular street size and they fit fine. I don't see any reason to size down for him since he's not doing anything nearly technical enough to warrant uncomfortable break in periods, and kids grow so fast that they need some room. He's been indoor climbing in them maybe a dozen times and they've wore well so far. And though it's hard to see in the pictures, the toe and heel is rubber.
