Makalu Lite Cor-Tec AS Tekking Poles

The Leki Makalu Lite Cor-Tec AS Tekking Poles are light-weight knee-savers, designed with a durable aluminum shaft and comfy cork grips. They feature adjustable shafts for convenience on steep switchbacks and varying terrain, and they collapse fairly small for easy stowing when you need your hands free. Carbide tips dig in to rocky trails with confidence-instilling grip, and the wider-than-average trekking basket prevents sink into mud or soft dirt.

    • Adjustable trekking poles that deliver anti-shock comfort
    • Aluminum shaft offers lightweight yet durable performance
    • Sturdy locking mechanisms lock the desired length into place
    • Ergonomic grip provides plenty of comfort during long miles
    • Wide standard baskets handle well in wet or mucky terrain

    They worked well

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I bought these a few months ago when due to Covid there was no in store handling allowed. I had an older, less expensive pair of Makalu Lites, but wanted to get a pair with the AS feature. I was a bit concerned after reading some of the negative reviews but I finally got the chance to test them out on a 10 mile hike over some tough terrain. At first they started slipping with weight on them and needed to be re-tightened often. Not good - or safe. Then one of my hiking buddies fixed the issue. I was tightening them with the lock closed, you need to adjust tightness when the lock is open, then close the lever. Duh! Once tightened they held all the weight put on them perfectly.

I'm sure the AS helps, just not sure how much though. These are very light weight for aluminum poles and the cork grip was very comfortable. I'm impressed.
