The Lake Men's MX331 Shoes deliver efficient power transfer and sure grip with comfortable durability. Made from equine leather lauded for its strength and durability, the upper fends off errant trail debris to provide protection for your feet through technical runs. Strategically placed mesh prevents overheating, and Lake incorporates its Outlast temperature-regulating fabric in the heel and tongue lining. As a result, your feet will remain at a consistent, comfortable temperature, regardless of whether it's hot or cold out.
The MX331 utilizes Lake's Mountain Performance Last, which is designed with a curved profile and increased heel lift and toe pitch to handle high-cadence, high-pressure power transfer. The outsole is Lake's SPD compatible Bath Tub Rubber flat sole, which provides sure traction in hike-a-bike situations and some comforting pedal purchase in the event of a missed clip-in.
To ensure that you experience an ideal, consistent, and powerful fit, the MX331 features the venerable BOA L4 Push/Pull retention system. Advantages of this system include a nearly limitless level of volume customization, a complete lack of pressure points, and a drop in weight compared to buckle systems. Lake also made the carbon fiber heel cup of the MX331 fully-moldable, reducing the chance you'll ever have to experience the power-sapping effects of heel-slippage.
- Q & A
i just ordered my fourth pair of lakes. they are very comfortable and high performance. the boa system is unbeatable---another review said that it seemed like it wasn't durable so they returned it. stupid move, the boa holds up great. my last pair wore out after 3 years of heavy use. the cleat mount ripped out of the carbon sole, but i was still able to finish the ride safely due to the rubber wings on the sole which allow the shoe to stay put on a pedal even if the cleat isn't engaged. i'm an expert rider, but not a racer, and i tend to ride more "enduro" like terrain: big climbs with occasional hike-a-bike, technical descents, and small to medium sized drops. i live in vermont and ride 4-5 days a week. these shoes have worked great for my purposes and i will continue to buy them as long as lake continues to make them.
Super comfortable for long rides.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 48
This makes my 4th pair of these Lake shoes. They are not cheap and I believe they could last a bit longer, but at this weight nothing is built to last. Wider in the toes and front foot than standard Sidi shoes. I haven't tried their wider models so can't compare those. When breaking in I get a little rubbing just below my ankle at the front. 10-15 hours use and they fit like a glove and issue gone for me. Only one rachet, so you need to re-tighten as you get settled in to your ride. The lower spec double rachet system might give a better hold, this is just a weight saving compromise. I'll buy them again, but be warned. You're buying a Ferrari not a Dodge. Performance comes at a price and part of the trade off is durability.
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: Shoe size 45.5
These shoes fit like Sidis, so the size chart on website is wrong (Lake 45.5 listed same as Sidi 46.5). Also the closing mechanism BOA L4 seems not very durable. Will return and get a different brand.
