Vapor Float Ski

La Sportiva's Vapor Float Ski is an ultralight fatty perfected for backcountry skiing during those heavenly powder days. Carbon Nanotube Technology ensures a phenomenal performance-to-weight ratio that rides like a heavy freeride ski and only weighs three pounds per ski. La Sportiva ditched the standard wood core and made the Vapor Float's center out of KEVLAR to continue weight reduction without interfering with how the ski performs. Add carbon-fiber reinforcements and La Sportiva's Carbon Torsion Box, and the Vapor Float will ski downhill as well as it skins uphill.

As far as the Vapor Float's profile is concerned, La Sportiva shaped it with an extremely high rockered tip. This tip navigates the deepest snow you're bound to come across this season; it also assists with setting the skintrack when it's your turn to take the lead on a pow day. The Vapor Float's shape also has subtle camber underfoot and more subtle rocker in the tail to help you ride successfully when you come across variable sections. It should go without saying that the Vapor Float's 117mm waist is the widest selection in La Sportiva's collection of high-performing mountaineering monsters.

  • Backcountry ski is light on weight and wide on width
  • 117mm waist floats through deep pow with ease
  • Heavily rockered tip eases turn initiation in soft snow
  • Subtle camber underfoot and rocker tail handles variable snow
  • Prepeg Carbon Nanotube and KEVLAR core keep the ski superlight
  • Carbon fiber reinforcements enhance torsional rigidity
  • Carbon Torsion Box is La Sportiva's lightest ski construction

Great Skis

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Took these out on the skin track and they perform beautifully on the uphill and are a dream on the downhill. Super light for their size and the tip profile makes trail breaking a breeze. Easy turn initiation and pivots quickly if you need to change direction on a dime. Great for soft snow touring and high vert days in the backcountry. I am 6'0 160lbs and went with the 178 for maneuverability and kick turns. Plenty stable and tons of float when it's deep.

Exhilarating!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Just caught the opening of Vail's back bowls with this year's epic powder dumps. Literally crotch deep. Smiling, giggling, and laughing with joy - flying down wide open steeps and through tight trees.

These skis do it all and are surprisingly easy to ski even on windpack and ice. And the ultralight carbon build helps with the thousands of jump turns that you'll do.

I cannot show the skis because of deep powder. However, here is a picture of my 48" ski pole.

Recommended Sizing Guide

Your ski size is largely determined by both your skiing ability and your preferred style of skiing. For example, an expert skier in Vermont will ski a far different ski than an expert in British Columbia. So take a look at our chart and explanations and find your perfect fit. Your weight also plays a large factor in finding the right ski. If you are either under or over average weight for your height consider downsizing or upsizing, respectively.
