    Trango Tower GTX Mountaineering Boot

A far cry from the bulky alpine boots of yesteryear, the La Sportiva Men's Trango Tower GTX Mountaineering Boot offers ultralight warmth and support to help you scale towering peaks in remarkable comfort—relatively speaking, at least. After all, if you don't suffer a little, then the mountain wasn't big enough.

Gore-Tex Performance Comfort keeps your foot dry when you get caught off-guard by a freak snowstorm in the middle of summer, but still breathes well to keep you from overheating at lower altitudes. The rugged upper with Honey-Comb reinforcements withstands the roughest punishment the mountain can dish out. PU in the midsole offers support and cushioning when moving over rocky terrain, and EVA inserts decrease weight while still absorbing impacts and providing excellent rebound. Rounding it out is a Vibram One outsole for reliable traction on precarious ridgelines and the durability needed to withstand season after season in the high alpine. This sole is also equipped with an Impact Brake System for better control on descents.

    • Stay warm while tackling towering peaks in this alpine boot
    • Gore-Tex membrane for breathable waterproofing
    • Upper is extremely abrasion-resistant
    • 3D Flex ankle for longitudinal lock-out and lateral flex
    • PU midsole offers cushioning and support
    • EVA inserts decrease weight
    • TPU insert for rear crampon compatibility
    • Vibram One sole is extremely grippy and durable

    Excellent and Stable Boot

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 44.5

Absolutely loved these boots. My own fault that I did not properly break them in (at all) but my first use was a 4 day hike/climb in Wyoming (Gannett Peak). Put 60 miles on them and they really held up under all types of terrain. My feet were pretty shot by the end, but I attribute that to the actual hike and not the boot. Traction was excellent, especially on boulders. Did really well in wet/damp trail. They are quite stable and you feel very study and solid when walking in them. Handled snow and crampons with no problem. And given the sturdiness they are fairly light. I usually wear size 11-11.5 and the 44.5 fit perfect with hiking socks. Overall, a quality and versatile boot. Would definitely recommend this boot as it can handle a wide range of terrain

    Great all mountain boot

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 10 (43)

I bought these boots for a Mt Kilimanjaro trip. Over the course of 6 days (Marangu route) and 42 miles, these boots performed great. What really surprised me from the get go was how comfortable thses boots are. For a mountaineering boot that is capable of WI3-4 climbing, these are great hiking boots. The entire 6 day Kilimajaro trek/summit, I never experienced a blister or hotspot. I normally wear a size 9 (42) street shoe. I ordered a size 10 (43). Perfect fit with a pair of medium wool hiking socks. Will bring thses along on my next ice climbing trip to see how they perform. Wish they had a toe bail for automatic crampons. They do have a heel welt for crampons. Overall a great boot and would buy again.

    Great all mountain boot

Thanks for the sizing tip. Any follow-up? Maybe about your ice climbing? Thanks.

    Solid Under Foot

Finally got a chance to put these boots through the test. Climbed Ljuboten in the Šar Mountains in Kosovo yesterday and these boots gave me everything I asked of them from start to finish. They are still fairly new and not once did I have to adjust the laces from start to finish. They performed as well as I could have ever imagined underfoot from scrambling up, to a solid decent on a wet and unstable surface. At first I thought they looked a bit clunky, but I was able to move fast and with precision on both the ascent and descent before an incoming storm moved in. Next week I will be in Switzerland and I can’t wait to see how they perform there. I have no doubt that they will be up to the task.

        So Far So Good

I went a half size larger than normal and they are a bit tight. After a short five mile hike I can see where they are going to break in. I am spending the next year in Europe and hope to put them to good use. Ankle support is above what I expected from the get go. These boots feel more like a stronger alpine boot than I thought they would. Not a complaint. I am 6' 6" and weigh in at 250 so I can use all the support they can offer. At the same time they are light and didn't feel like I was working hard to move forward. More to follow, but as of right now I am happy as always with their product.
