Tough and tender.

The word 'burly' doesn't do the La Sportiva Arco Climbing Pant justice. Built with a tough cotton twill and spandex blend, the Arco holds up to sever punishment but also gives when you need it to. The waist consists of the tried-and-true belt loops and a zipper design for easy fit customizing. A lower leg pocket keeps essentials handy but out of the way. Other cool features include an integrated toothbrush pocket, so you can clean up manky holds easily, an integrated stash pocket for small essentials, and articulated knees for a natural feel.

Great articulated pant, not heavy duty

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

The Arcos have been my go to every day pant for a couple years. I own many pairs of them. I believe there is a difference in material between the old brown color (more pure cotton, no stretch feeling) vs. the other colors (seem to have more stretch built in). These pants are super comfortable. The articulation is great. Material is breathable, typical for cotton pants. The downside is that calling these climbing pants is a stretch-- unless you're willing to shred a $120 pair of pants during a normal day of climbing. I stick with well worn pairs of Carharts for that. In long term use, the first place that fails is the inside upper seam where the front pocket material meets the outer material; it will wear through and then the pocket becomes a "hole."
The Solutions are pretty much identical to these but in a much tougher, but hotter, material. I like the Solutions for a light winter pant, not for a summer pant.
Wish Sportiva would make this exact cut and articulation in a slightly tougher but 100% cotton material.

Thick material=Durable

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: medium

Durable, warm, but definitely not breathable. Look for something else if it's high 50's or 60's.

Are they an athletic fit?

Hi Mike,

These pants are a regular fit.

Pricey but worth it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: S

Freaking stellar pants. They're on the expensive side, but I really enjoy the fit and comfort. Not too casual that they're just lounging pants, classy enough to wear to dinner with friends, and technical enough to practice your parkour or sneakout at night and fulfill your vigilante tendencies.

Comfort and style

These pants fit amazing and look good too!

Not my first choice for climbing

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are super comfortable pants, the material itself is durable but the stitching is questionable. After a few pitches and a couple washes there is some heavy fraying on the stitches. IMHO the solutions are a much better and more durable climbing pant.
