Warm coat with the right sizing...

This was the first purchase from this company and I wore it today for the first time. NYC was cold today and wind chills making it very cold. I had this on and most say the I was boiling in the process. The sleeves are the perfect size. I am looking forward to trying this out when it is super cold. I will return with an edited review.

      Kuhl arctic down parka

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs small

Speaking on this brand,,based on another type of jacket by Kuhl,,I would think other than sizing which to me seems to be sized by European standard of sizing is a bit snug if one purchases their normal size,,so perhaps size up one size,,if one plans to wear a med weight sweater/fleece underneath,,other than sizing Kuhl makes a very sturdy, durable well stitched product as far as I'm concerned,,plus everybody has different body shapes,,slender, muscular, short, tall,,etc,,but you will be warm in this,,oh yea the pockets may be a bit tight,,not a deal breaker for me,,others may have issues though,,You want a good product,,get it,,if not send it back,,Better than paying 1G for the well known brand that some flock to because of its logo from the Great North

Sizing was tuff but the coat is awesome

First, I'll say this parka is amazing. It looks cool, it's made well with quality materials and it is WARM. I live in Northern Michigan, mere blocks from Grand Traverse Bay and let me say that our winters are not Winter 101. I am actually looking forward to kicking its ass with this coat when the temps hit -15F!
But...I am a "tweener" size between M and L for most shirts and jackets. I had at first ordered a M and it was almost perfect. The GF said it looked small and constricting on me. Maybe but only barely. The sleeves weren't too short, only a touch when I raised my hands. I was hesitant on exchanging for a L thinking it would be huge since the M was so close. I did end up getting the L, and other than being a bit roomier in the torso than I'd like, the L was the way to go. Backcountry was a breeze to deal with, as usual. Hope this helps with your sizing decision.

Fit does not work for all

If you happen to have a body size like mine (broad shoulders and big chest, long and thin torso), then this jacket may not fit as well as others have described. I can confirm that the materials are amazing, but I ordered both a M and a L (I tend to be between sizes) and here's how the sizing worked on me: the M fit my body snugly but was too tight on the shoulders, and too short on my arms; the L fit my shoulders and arms perfectly, but the body was loose and long, and therefore let in a lot of air as I move. I ended up settling on the L, but it was definitely a compromise.

      Awesome jacket and customer service.

Perfect fit. Great material and design. Very light and warm. Decent size hood. It hugs your head but doesn't put tension on it. The only reason that I'm giving it a 4 star is that I ordered one for the wife last year and there were no import charges. However, this year when I ordered mine I have to pay 150 dollars for import fees, which was collected upon delivery. Most expensive outerwear that I own. I ordered from backcountry because of the cheaper overall price and the discount but ended up paying more than if I bought directly from Kuhl.

This is nicest coat I've owned, very warm and well built with a great fit. I'm a fairly slim person and coats usually feel too large if the sleeves are the correct length. Not so with this parka! I should have picked this up earlier!

great jacket, could have a better fit

      • Size Bought: Medium

For my size, this is one of the best jacket's I've found. I often find Kuhl short though and this is no exception. I'd love to see this jacket with a bit more length especially in the arms. Style is unique however and I love the pocket placements, trimmer fit, and the hood. I'd rather see a cloth inner cuff extension vs the very tight thumb hole ones provided, which I can't use due to the arm length being too short.

I got this jacket to wear around town when it is just too frigid for the usual mid-weight puffy coat, and have been very pleased. It fits/looks great, has plenty of pockets for all my trinkets, and is VERY cozy and warm. In the dead of winter (generally around 0-15* F around here) I will throw this over a t-shirt or long sleeve shirt and be happy.

Fit is true to size/generous enough for what it's meant for. I'm 6' 195lbs and a Large fits great with room for up to a flannel underneath.

      exceeded all expectations

The construction quality of this jacket is magnificent. As soon as I slipped it on, I knew "oh yes, this is the coat for me." It's super comfy.

      How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
      Natural Waist:
Measure across waist where you normally wear your pants.
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.
Measure from the center of your back to your wrist with arms held out.
