Komperdell Carbon Trailstick C4 trekking
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
These poles come apart and fold up to about 16 inches long for packing. The three sections are held together by a non-elastic plastic-coated cord. These are light poles, and I like them so far. They saved me going down a steep slope. The pole sections friction fit into the corresponding hubs on the section above. They will not stay together until you pull out the bottom of the top section from the handle. It has a spring -loaded button that snaps out once you pull that pole section out all the way. When the button snaps it tightens the plastic-coated interior cord to hold the sections in place. The height is adjustable by sliding the very top graduated pole to the level you want, and then closing the metal cover piece that locks the height. I did not pull out the bottom of the top section and snap it into place at first and was confused how the sections stayed together. The bottom section kept falling out. I called Backcountry and the friendly gearhead helped me figure it out. Now that I know how it works, these poles are great.

Not so good.

They are light but when I went to use them, they kept popping off and I had to constantly stop and put them back together. After numerous times, I gave up and quit using them. I ended up returning them.
