Manufacturer defect?

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I wanted to love this dress! I ordered for a Salmon River trip and it came just in time. However, the elastic around the waist doesn't seem to be sewn correctly. I ordered a large and it fits nicely everywhere except the waist. The elastic is just way too loose. It almost seems like a big piece was just sewn in and not stretched first. Elastic should shrink and gather the material, stretching as your body needs. As you can see from the pics, the elastic just hung off me. There was at least 2" of extra space at the waist that seemed inconsistent with the rest of the dress sizing. If I could sew, I might have tried to fix it, but at this price and Kavu quality, I shouldn't have to. For reference I am 5'3", 37 bust 31 waist 40 hips, 149lbs

really cute but awkward fit

I got this dress in sunset stripe and it's beautiful. The pattern and colors are mesmerizing and I'd love to wear it all the time. Unfortunately the sizing doesn't work for me. I'm 5'4", about 160 pounds, with wider hips, and usually wear a large in both tops and bottoms. The large fits perfectly in the upper body, but it's a smidge too tight around the butt, which causes it to ride up and cause an awkward wrinkle of fabric around my hips. I also tried the XL, and it is just way too huge. I like loose clothes but it seriously looks like a sack. I think it would be true to size for someone who is more straight up and down through the hips, but not so good for curvier people.

I've put it through the wringer

I love this dress and wear it all the time. It's breathable, fast-drying and not too short. You can definitely dress it up if you want to or wear it as a cover up, hiking, etc. Very versatile. I'm 5'5", 140 lbs and 34C, typically wear a size 4. The small fits and I kept it but it's the tiniest bit tight around the bum and if you're larger than a C-cup I'd size up to M.
