Great protection

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Regular

I've climbed and skied with these in CO and on Mt Rainier. More than enough sun protection - even for sunny days on Mt Rainier glaciers. I have also worn on misty cloudy days and the contrast is excellent. Camel lenses adjust beautifully. You can loosen the strap a bit to improve the venting if your forehead gets hot and leads to fogging. I have a large head and pretty big face. These fit well in the regular size.

Perfection

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've used these glasses for two years in challenging environments. Eye protection, check. Clear vision, check. Durable, check. Light weight, check. Blocks wind, check. Adjustable, check.

A well thought-out, high performance product.

Pretty Good

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

These sunglasses work really well. Block out the sun great and allow you to see in all types of light. only reason i give it 4 star is the size. they look odd if you have a larger head, even some people that seem to have a normal average sized head, these look too small.

Great shades

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Had these bad boys out on Mt Shasta a month or so ago and they worked great. Camel lens worked good in cloudy conditions and when it was insanely bright. They fit my face so well that I would forget just how bright the snow fields get until I took them off. The adjustable ear pieces work great for fitting it under a helmet and they somehow manage to not fog over during heavy aerobic activity. And as others have said, they almost eliminate the need for goggles

Absolutely NOT recommend

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

1. It is hard to adjust. There is always some sun light leaking from the top of the frame hurting my eye no matter how hard I tried to tune it.
2. During my 2 weeks trip to Mt Denali in 2014 with these glasses, my ears were so painful that I had to take it off for several hours. It caused me snow blindness that I had to stay at 14000 camps for next two days with sore eyes. It almost ruined my entire climbing.

Definitely I do not recommend this product.

Glacier glasses in the glacier basin

There's still no substitute for a real glacier glass in the alpine when the sun is really kicking out rays.

    Groppel goggles

Clouds in and out all day, and when the groppel started blasting us sideways, the Explore was as good as a pair of goggles.

      Protect My Eyes

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

Was wondering should I give it a four stars or three stars. This one does the job to protect the eyes and can put on for the entire day before sunset. Look directly to the sun without being uncomfortable. The problem with this is it doesn't fit my face perfectly and my ears get painful after a long wear. Not sure how it does with the other people. Also the small rubber in the back for fixing it to the head, is getting slippery after months' use. I believe one day it will break out.

      Protect My Eyes

      awesome

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

ok i havent used them yet so just wanna say few words on initial impression build quality is good, fit very comfortable ( on my face) the first time i took them out of the box i thought i ve got the kids' version or something but when i put them on they fit perfectly. also very light and sides all covered very well.

      cons:

atleast a glued strap over the nose for padding for 1-2mm would make them complete.

you need a bachelors degree to take side covers off after playing for 10 min i just left them there while being scared of breaking anything, not a word about it in the manual.

these glasses are fully justify their money

        Julbo Explorer Sunglasses

          Cool style and doesnt fog

          • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
          • Fit: True to size

They don't fog and look good. If it fogs its because your doing something wrong. The tips can be adjusted and the nose padding also. I've used it for backcountry skiing/mountaineering and they've been just solid. On very cloudy day the vision is OK, otherwise its just perfect visibility & protection.

there no nose padding on them

True you dont have any nose padding, but my nose never hurted or felt discomfort. I don't know how you call it but the 2 "sticks" are flexible at half the length so you can adjust the positioning.

          More than happy..

I got these even though my wife is a rep for Oakley... Sorry Honey.

I think they are one of the best glasses for mountaineering. I agree that they don't allow enough ventilation when you are sweating like a pig, for general climbing I think they do an awesome job protecting your eyes from the harsh glare.

            Pretty sweet mountain glasses

            • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Everyone else pretty much hit all the highlights. Don't buy into the "anti-fog" stuff though. They are pretty easily to fog up during hard/fast skinning, especially with light or no wind conditions. Anyone that says otherwise is either moving too slowly or has sufficient air movement through the vents. Regardless, I really like the Explorers.

            not for warm weather

used these for a summer traversing the juneau icefield - high albedo and pingpong ball conditions. it being summer never used them below freezing. that said i was sweating like mofo skiing and digging snowpits. the camel lenses are fantastic in various light conditions but the anti fog fails in warmer conditions (duh). the goggle like design causes the frame to rest on/near your eyebrows and once sweat starts running down the inside of the frame you will fog. one other annoyance was the bendy ear pieces - too flexible. pulling on the croakie strap to loosen will straighten out the ear pieces and leave glasses fighting to stay on your head.
all in all amazing lens but wrong glasses for warmer weather or high sweat activities.
