Perfect for cooler-weather climbing

My pick if I had only one shirt to own

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

This shirt, in various colors, is my go-to shirt. I wear these shirts all the time, whether as a base layer underneath my ski mid and outer layers, for climbing in cooler weather, to the bar... you get the point.

The fit is slightly trim to layer nicely, but isn't so fitted as to look ridiculous when worn on its own (I selected "fits true to size", but keep in mind that it is somewhat fitted throughout). The merino wool is soft and chafe-free when bearing a heavy pack, regulates temperature well, and is nicely odor-resistant.

I can't think of anything that would make it a better shirt - maybe expand the colors? Otherwise, it's amazing.

Fits well, works great

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

This is an excellent garment, well constructed, light and warm. Using this as a base layer or wearing it casually, I find that the merino wool is worth the price for the comfortable experience. The thinness of the cloth allows a full range of motion; this is not the case with standard "thermal" tops. The long term durability might be a factor, but so far it is holding up OK after two months.

New Favorite Base Layer

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: X Large

I love this shirt! Shirt fits good, I do wish it was a tiny bit longer so I could keep it tucked in. It's just the right weight for backpacking in cold weather, does a great job of regulating temperature so you don't burn up while walking and freeze when you stop. The longest I've worn it was three days before washing but being merino it smelled fine.

Fits like a medium

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: xl

i bought an xl and it fits like a medium. The sleeves and torso are very short. Too bad.

Favorite Baselayer

This has quickly become my favorite baselayer. It has a great, trim fit and has the always-great feel of wool. It is far-warmer than my last Polartec baselayer from Marmot and I love that I can wear it for extended periods before it begins to smell. When I can, I try to wear it casually too.

    Warm, Form Fitting, and Breathable

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium

This product is worth every penny. First of all, I rarely need to wash it. When I do, I always hang dry it, which I highly recommend doing for any synthetics or wool products.

I have a Patagonia Level 3 base layer. I don't want to bash on their products or their brand because I do love many things that they produce, but Icebreaker kills it on warmth compared to my Patagonia. I also love the fact that it's highly breathable. When skinning up to the hut or for a 3rd lap at Uneva peak, I feel comfortable wearing only this (when sunny outside, of course). If I do need to wear a mid layer, I am ensured a high amount of breathability with this product. I am in love with the way it performs, and I will be purchasing an Icebreaker 260 zip top soon, for those blistery cold days on the hill when warmth is of the utmost importance.

I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a do-it-all base layer. It's not expedition weight, but I've worn it on extremely cold and windy days, and it has exceeded expectations every time.

Doe si shrink at all when you wash it. Also I have tried Icebreakers body fit 200 and Im sorry maybe my skin is more sensitive maybe it itches less than regular wool but there is a slight itch or maybe I shuld say abrasion even though it feels smooth. I wonder if I was it it might get less abrasive any body can fill me in Id appreciate it

Definitely shrank a bit when I dried it with heat. Realized that mistake after the fact and now I just wash it and then hang dry. My skin might not be as sensitive as yours I did not feel anymore abrasiveness or itchiness after washing.

    Don't order if tall

Way too short in torso. A little too short in the sleeves (bought XL).
Why they decided to make the torso way shorter on this vs. the Icebreaker BodyFit 150-Ultralite Anatomica Crew - Short-Sleeve (whose torso in XL fits me nicely), I'll never know. Thumbs down.
      For reference I'm 6'5", 208lbs, athletic build.

      To: ME - From: ME

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

My wife is a terrible gift giver. I on the other hand - to put it mildly - I total ROCK at giving gifts. Ipad Mini, Patagonia (or is it Patagucci), babies (easy to get, hard to return) - really the list could go on for a while. Meanwhile I get wal-mart tube socks - FROM HER MOM. This is not intended to be a low blow - she has other redeeming qualities. However, it did mean that in order to save my Christmas this year I had to take matters into my own hands. If I wanted a good gift - well then, dang it, I had to take some of my own gift giving magic and just sprinkle it on me. And again - not to be vain - I hit another home run.

Okay I will admit, wrapping my own present on Christmas eve was a bit cheesy - I should have been more diligent and wrapped it a few days earlier to let the suspense build. But none the less, I was more than happy to open my box bright and early, as my kids (one of my awesome gifts to my wife) opened their Legos, barbeis, and other great gifts from me. After making a bit of a scene thanking myself, I put the shirt on and immediately noticed the temperature regulating qualities. The icy stares the wife sent my way barely even registered as I was in wrapped in 'Bodyfit 200 merino wool' bliss.

Since that magical Christmas morn, I have used the shirt as a layer under thin button up work shirts as well as a layer under softshells while ice-climbing. It is nice under a thin button up shirt when the weather is cold as I can run outside on those brief errands that pop up during a work day without having to grab a jacket (except for when it is windy - wind blows - gotta wear a jacket when it's windy). As a base layer while ice-climbing it is pure joy. We have had some cold snaps lately and day time highs were sub 20's. However, between this shirt and a nice softshell jacket, I have been totally warm while climbing. I do have to throw on a puffy while belaying but whatevs, try standing around, not moving, in the cold and stay warm - not an easy task. As for fit, I am 5'9", 175 lbs and the large worked out perfect for me. So seriously. If you ever need some gift giving magic for yourself or anyone else take it from a gift giving PRO - this shirt rocks.

      not for bigger guys

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs small

very thin, very tight fitting in XL

beck lie is almost "plunging v neck "

way too small cut for guys with square shoulders like all ice breaker gear . if ur like me, id stay clear. look at the models they use to ilustrate what kind of guys shud buy this stuff.

althouhg its lovely on the skin its just a bad bad fit

Icebreaker comes in a few different "fits". Anything with "bodyfit" is meant to fit pretty snug and stretchy, mostly as a base layer. 3rd party sites like or REI rarely distinguish this :-/. Some of IB's thicker stuff has a different fit, and you may have more luck with that.

      Comfortable, warm, base layer

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs small

I have never owned such a comfortable shirt. This is especially important for an item of clothing that I find myself grateful for in desperate times. I will use this for my base layer when I backpack, a toasty layer to stow away on my fall climbs, or just something nice and warm to wear for the night out. For me the fit is 98% there, but a medium proves to be just a tad short in the arms and torso. Keep in mind that I am 6'3" and finding clothes that fit 100% perfect is very rare. Even with this I plan on keeping the shirt, too comfy.

      Couple days strong

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

purchased the 200 to wear under my puffy as an every day shirt as well as a layering piece on the mountain. Haven't got the chance to wear to the mountain but just in the city I've noticed this thing performs! On a 25-30 degree night, I wore this under my 550fill puffy and was very comfortable. Having this on under my puffy inside got me sweating. Not to be gross but I've used it 3 days in a row now and it still smells new! I'm also 6'1 165-170lbs and the large fits great

      Top Notch!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

The bodyfit 200 oasis crew is a fantastic base layer. I got mine in a medium, which was a true fit. I used it first time on the river this week. It was about 30 degrees and snowing - So, between this, my puff and a shell I was toasty warm the entire time. The merino wool is real soft and did a great job keeping me warm and dry. I stayed out for a few hours with no problem. Call me gross but I'll use it a couple more times before washing, as it doesn't stink at all. Another plus of merino wool.

      Normal Icebreaker Fit...

If this fits your right, then you'll give it 5 stars. it's made with high quality merino; it's got a durable but soft feel. And if you've ever used merino wool, you know it's hard to make it stank and it keeps you dry.

However, as a climber i have larger forearms and Icebreaker's cut is tighter than other brands. they also have longer arms that lead to some bunching, and shorter waist lines that encourage them to become untucked. I don't fall in a standard set of dimensions, so maybe this works great for most, but other brands fit me great.

        New fit for F13!

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
        • Fit: True to size

Hey all- check out the updated Oasis Crew for the Fall! We did a fit update- adding length where it was needed and improving the overall fit of the garment.
