Technically superior.

Although it may be dressed up as a standard hoodie, don't be fooled by the Icebreaker Men's Quantum Hooded Full-Zip Shirt's seemingly casual disposition. Underneath its sleekly styled exterior is a wealth of wondrous warmth and moisture-wicking comfort, courtesy of its body-mapped merino wool optimizing heat retention and breathability in frigid alpine environments.

What makes the Quantum Hooded Full-Zip Shirt superior to your average baselayer lies in Icebreaker's BodyfitZONE merino wool. This technology places midweight merino along the body to lock in warmth and actively wick moisture as you start to sweat. It's supplemented with ventilated merino zones that expel moisture in sweat-prone areas, so you're not a wet mess after you've been pushing uphill at an unrelenting pace.

  • Tech-savvy midlayer for fast-moving alpine missions
  • BodyfitZONE technology maps merino wool in strategic areas
  • Midweight merino wool for warmth, moisture-wicking comfort
  • Sits close-to-body without restricting motion or being bulky
  • Ventilated merino panels disperse sweat to keep you dry
  • Gusseted underarms and forward-set side seams for mobility
  • Smooth flatlock seams eliminate the scratchy feel
  • Zippered chest pocket with cord routing

Fantastic hoody

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

This is my favorite hoody ever and one of my favorite pieces of clothing all time. It is absolutely perfect. Fantastic fit where its trim enough to be worn under jacket or shell but not too tight where you can't comfortable wear a shirt underneath. In term of warmth it's really well balanced. Soft and comfortable yet tough and durable. I wear it trail running, commuting by bike, and out in town. Really fantastic piece of clothing that I hope Icebreaker will always make. Love Icebreaker.

Ten stars

Awesome hoody

I love the Quantum hoody. It is so soft and so comfortable against the skin. And it keeps you just warm enough without over heating. The fit is slim but not skin tight. On a cool day I can wear it over a T-shirt. A bit colder, I can fit a merino baselayer and a fleece shirt under. And on very cold days I can wear it under my down jacket.
Looks good too. Got compliments from coworkers, and even a stranger on the subway.

Quality and sleek

With the purchase price, I use these as a quality fitted athletic dress fleece for work over a polo and love them. I have a black color that has lasted 5 years and pulled the trigger on a grey this year. Favorite hoodie by a mile. I’m 5-11’ and 150 and the medium is a perfect athletic fit. I’ve grown to despise blousy fitting shirts and jackets. For me, Icebreaker mediums fit the bill 100%.

Nice Merino Hoodie!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

This hoodie is semi-fit, not form-fit, leaving room to wear base layers comfortably underneath. I just purchased my third from BC, in copper.
I love it!

Expensive and thin material

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: medium

First off this doesn't fit as snugly as the picture represents. The sleeves especially are looser than the picture. The material is nice wool, but because it's so thin it's not very flattering or warm. I tried the copper color which is nice, but I could see it getting dirty easily.

Let's not get carried away folks

All the five star rave reviews (12 at the time of my purchase) might give one the impression that there is no room for improvement, but that is not the case. There are a few flaws worth mentioning. First and foremost, the full-length front zipper is a left-handed one, meaning that the pull tab to zip it up is on the left side from the point-of-view of the wearer and so you have to use your right hand to fit the insertion pin into the box of the zipper and your left hand to pull the tab of the zipper up. This is precisely backwards from every other full-length zippered fleece top or jacket I own, and is annoying for a right-handed person. Second, the gauge of the front zipper is too large in my opinion. The width and thickness of the fabric (or "tape" as it is known) that the zipper is embedded combined with the size of the zipper and the way the zipper is sewn into the garment and backed with more wool fabric makes the whole length of the front zip of the hoody feel too thick and stiff, especially considering the relatively thin wool fabric of the rest of the garment. The plastic reinforced top and bottom of the zipper tape contributes to this also. The ends of the sleeves are a little different, there is a separate end piece sewn on to each arm, which is the part which includes the (enormous) thumb holes. These don't look too attractive in everyday wear, but you can tuck these arm extensions in and under after putting the garment on. Finally, the hood is cut in such a way that it covers quite a bit less of the sides of ones face at the jaw line than other hoods, although some might like this. All in all I must say I was a bit disappointed given the very high price and the expectations created by all the gushing in the other reviews. I'm pretty tall (6' 5") and wish it were just a tad longer, but other than that the L size gives me a nice athletic fit. I can't be sure but I think the XL would have been a bit baggy.

Great-looking, great-performing midlayer

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Fits extremely well, really flattering cut, true-to-size, neat tech features like the thumbholes and chest zip pass pocket really push it over the top. 6'2, 195, large fits like a glove.

Whats good:
-Long in the torse(have a longer torso, always gotta buy long fit)
-Breaths nice
-Reflective on the back, great for when wear it while riding
-love the long sleeves so you can pull the sleeves over your thumb

Whats not so good
-bit pricey but im finding that stuff that fits well and isn't crap tends to cost more

Yes I would recommend this to a friend

I snagged one of these at 60% off. It's a fantastic material, thick and still the little bit of stretch means the fit is nice and athletic. The arms are a bit longer so the thumb holes don't pull too tight, which is how thumb holes should work. They shouldn't dig into your palm when moving your arms about I attached a photo of how it fits my torso. I'm 6'3", 225, waist is 33, shoulders 44". This is a size large.

    Excellent hoodie

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

This hoodie is hands down, just an excellent, well-thought out piece from Icebreaker. Before purchasing I had some concerns due to the price point, but they were quickly vanquished once I put the hoodie on. It is SO comfortable! Seriously, the Lycra gives it just enough stretch, and the merino wool is so soft.

This jacket has exceptionally well thought out and executed features. There is fabric underneath the zipper, sort of like a draft collar, that prevents the zipper itself from touching your body, which is great when wearing it without a shirt because you don't have to deal with that cold zipper feeling! The thumb holes are great for active wear and prevent the sleeves from riding up. There is a hole behind the zippered chest pocket so you can run a headphone cord through it. Just little attention to details like that are what make this a great piece. It is very comfortable in a wide range of temperatures as well, and the anti-microbial properties of merino are going to serve well because I hardly ever take this thing off! I also have really dug the low profile hood for running to keep my hair back.

Seriously, a touch sticker price, but well worth it as this hoodie is going to be worn often and last a long time.

    Favorite hoodie

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

    Love this hoodie.

As is typical of Icebreaker the material is awesome. Really warm in the cold but still breathes once you get a sweat on. So far have just used it for riding to work but once it wears out a bit will be taking it on hikes ect.

What I really like is the fit. At 6'5 with an athletic build it is hard to find clothes that fit at the shoulders as well as the waist and arms. I have the size XL and it fits perfectly. The fit of the hood is also cool, wrapping slightly over your forehead rather than sticking out and catching the wind and not providing any warmth.

They have also paid heaps of attention to detail. Under the arms is a slightly different weave that looks to be more breathable. Also, there are a few useful pockets without being too bulky.

    Perfect hoody!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

This hoody is perfect for cool to cold weather. The added benefits of wool mean it can be light but still warm. I'm 6'2" & 175 pounds slim and the medium fits perfect. My arms are 34/35 and the sleeve length is right on. I love the thumb holes and the chest pocket is large enough to hold an iPhone 6 (6+ won't fit). Do yourself a favor and get one of these. You won't be disappointed.

    Perfect, man. Perfect!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Merino wool is where it's at. I have the Quantum vest, which has a little more fitted cut than this hoodie. Still athletic, but without showing your nips to the world. The monkey thumbs on the sleeves are probably good if you have a 33"-34" sleeve. I'm 6"2', 185 lbs, 43" chest and 33" waist. The large fits me perfectly. I have 35" arms, so I just don't use the thumbholes.

This item is my new go-to midlayer, now I'm looking forward to Fall and Winter.

Top notch, you won't be dissapointed

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have owned one of these for over 12 months now and this is my go to hoody for just about everything be it casual wear, cool weather running or a midlayer for skiing. It has an extremely comfortable fit, breathes and wicks moisture like a beast and you just can't beat Merino wool. I wore this jacket every day for 2 weeks straight snowboarding in Japan and there was not any smell at all!

    This jacket is amazing

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. It is very soft, thin but very warm! He loves it. It's worth the money!

    Incredibly versatile

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Just back from a five-day, 1200 mile motorcycle trip chasing corners from Pittsburgh to Southwestern Virginia and back. Temperature ranges as varied as the terrain and road conditions. From 80s in the valleys in bright sunshine to 25 miles of 48 degree, fog-bound creeping along the Blue Ridge Parkway to the 56 degree high-speed jaunt home on Monday. I never took this hoody off once (other than to shower). Thin polyester long-sleeve underneath when it was hot and light insulated vest on top when it was cooler. Never too hot and never once cold. I've always been a fan of merino wool since my first really good cycling shorts in the 1970s. The new clothing applications are outstanding and this is a great example. I'm 6', 215lbs, long-waisted and the XL is perfect. And it never smells!

    Amazing Hooded Full zip shirt!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I absolutely love wearing this shirt whenever I go out for casual dressed functions. It keeps me warm and allows me to pair it with a nice icebreaker t so I don't sweat in hotter conditions. If you want style and comfort all at the same time choose this option and you will never be disappointed! One word of CAUTION: Never machine dry this garment! Always hang dry! I am 6'2", athletic build, and I wear a large

    Wide Temperature Range Midlayer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had one of these hoodies for a year and have been inpressed by how well it regulates body temperature. I have worn it running on mornings that start cool (mid forties) but remain comfortable well above those temperatures. This jacket does just as well on bitter days, keeping me comfortable well below freezing. I love the athletic fit and the soft feel of the wool. It also dries quickly enough that I can wear it on a high tempo ride into work, and it won't feel damp on the way home.
