A hybrid we can all agree on.
You're going to have a hard time finding a jacket that works more efficiently than the hybrid-constructed Icebreaker Men's Ellipse Half-Zip Hooded Insulated Jacket. The chest panel and hood are insulated with MerinoLOFT for serious warmth where you need it most, while the rest of the jacket is crafted from a soft merino wool blend that amps up breathability and moisture management while minimizing bulk.
Stretch side panels offer increased mobility for ski touring or hikes through rugged terrain, and its slim fit helps the jacket fit comfortably underneath a shell when nasty winter weather approaches. Icebreaker compromised with half-length zipper that makes for easy on and off and lets you ventilate excess heat but is still more packable than jackets with full-length zips. It also has multiple zippered pockets so you can safely stash snacks, maps, keys, and other small necessities.

- Q & A
ideal touring layer
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: small
Bought this with the intention of it being my primary Alpine Touring/SkiMo layer (above a true base layer, Icebreaker Sprint).
thought it worked exactly as I thought it would, being more breathable than a Pata R1, but equally as warm. Maybe not as wind protective as the waffle design, but I didn't want it to be.
It's hard to say whether or not this buy is better than getting something like the OR deviator since that has a significantly lower price tag, but I'm a big fan of merino.
I will still take my R1 out for climbing most likely, but for ski touring, this layer fit just the bill. Has a cool inner chest zip for cards too.
