  • Merino wool has natural anti-odor properties for lasting freshness

Not very comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

The vented linking under the armpits and on the arms sounded good in theory, but I found the additional seams to make this possible very itchy and uncomfortable. Icebreaker has a good reputation, and I was looking forward to getting this, but I just found it far more uncomfortable than many other merino base layers out there.

Love It!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

This is a very high quality merino wool baselayer. I use it mainly for snowboarding but it works great for any outdoor activity where you need some extra warmth. The upper back panel and underarms have perforations in the fabric to dump heat quickly. The optional thumb holes are great for those extra cold days.
The sleeves run a little long and skinny in the forearms but besides that the fit is great.

In the Zone, Chief

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

The zonal mesh in this top is the future of baselayers. It is strategically placed to dump heat from the places you sweat the most, which in turn reduces the amount of moisture that ends up in the garment. Pair that with a high quality merino blend, and you have one of my favorite baselayers on the market right now. I have been wearing 200 zone for my fall fishing adventures (which start frigid in the morning, and heat up to around 50 in the afternoon), and the versatility of this piece makes it perfect for this purpose. I am excited to use it touring this winter.

Body mapping at its finest

I don't normally wear "base layers" because they keep me too warm. These aren't like the old base layers i'm used to. They have the Zone technology so you shed heat where you want, and keep it where you need. I was really comfortable in this baselayer from my first light coffee all the way to the summit. I have experienced the sweaty freeze at the summit, but didn't have that experience in this top. I would fit perfectly into a medium, a large is just a little long in the sleeves.
