HoldenCypress Jacket - Women's

Seemingly casual, delightfully technical.

Although it takes the silhouette of a classic trench coat, the Women's Cypress Jacket by Holden is anything but old-fashioned. Its waterproof membrane, quick-drying lining composed of upcycled coffee grounds, and eco-friendly DWR finish ready it for shred days in the park. Zippered underarm vents help to regulate your body temperature, so you're not sweating profusely during out-of-bounds hikes and springtime sessions in the park. Ultimately, these technical features mean you'll remain totally dry and comfortable, regardless if it's dumping pow or an idyllic bluebird day on the mountain.

Holden Shell

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I waited to write my review until I got at least a couple days on the mountain with this shell, and after a few days of use on the mountain I give it a rate if 3.5/4 stars. In terms of€ positive features, it looks great on (slightly form fitting, beautiful and bright crimson color ((I bought size Medium)), the back side completely covers my butt, it has awesome inside pockets that include a special and efficient credit card holder inside the inner breast pocket, the built in cuffs with thumbhole fits great and provides extra hand warmth, the armpit vents definitely do their job when you are working extra hard, and the button snaps definitely reinforce the zipper. However in terms of negative features, the powder skirt does not come close to being able to button shut, even with just leggings on underneath, so that is a definite bummer. I ended up just taking it off since luckily it is removable. Another problem is that the hood just barely fits over my helmet (which is a medium sized Smith Holt, also bought on Back Country). It does fit if I
force it but once I get it over the helmet I then cannot zip the jacket up completely which has been a bummer with cold wind (about two inches shy of being zipped all the way).

Every time I have worn it so far it has been around 17 degrees F at the base of the mountain and not too much wind, and I have worn it with 3 to 4 base layers including a regular cotton long sleeve shirt, an Under Armour jogging tight turtle neck, a quilted Patagonia snap back pull over, a Cole neck warmer, and a Patagonia headband under my helmet, and have been warm enough. I usually do work up a pretty decent sweat on my runs but then get a little chili on the lift. But I think it is worth noting the amount of layering I have been wearing reaffirms that this jacket is definitely just a shell. (which is fine with me because there is definitely enough room to wear those layers, just worth noting)

In terms of my exact measurements I am 5'4" and I generally wear size medium tops and leggings, size 8 jeans, and size 6 dresses. My hips (at hip bone) measure 39", my butt (at widest point) measures 40", my waist (at belly button) measures 33", and my bust measures 39". Generally speaking I have an average size, small butt but big boobs body type, (also I'm 25 y/o) so I was very surprised that the powder skirt would not button.

I'm definitely happy with my purchase and am not going to be returning the jacket, (the powder skirt isn't the end of the world for me because I ski, and its worth noting that I got absolutely buried in 13" of fresh powder in the trees embarrassingly about 5 times last week, and never had any snow up my back without the powder skirt), but I do wish it would fit more comfortably over my helmet.

Effective and stylish

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Ever since holden's reemergence back into the limelight of snowboarding outerwear they have been making some awesome jackets. This particular model has an awesome fit that is true to size for your average jacket sizing so easy to get the right fit the first time. The longer style of this jacket is perfect for any snowy days at the resort and it does an awesome job keeping you nice and dry !

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

My 14 year old loves this jacket. We bought a small to give her room to grow. So comfy and warm. Also bought navy and the color online is way lighter than in person. So we sent back for a more girly color. But super cute jacket.
