Your boots protect your feet from rocks and abrasions, and the Airprene protects your feet from cold with 3.5mm of neoprene. A foldover gravel guard blocks debris from getting inside to irritate you, and is equipped with a lace hook so it stays securely in place, while a vented base allows water to drain out of the sock to reduce weight.
