Why We Like The Sogn Bib Shell Pant

When we float through powder in the Sogn Bibs, we completely forget about any worries of snow sneaking into our pants. The waterproof, three-layer fabric and fully sealed seams thwart the slush that threatens to seep through, all while still allowing moisture to escape. Bibs and gaiters prevent snow from flying in and soaking your legs, even if you yard sale, and the adjustable suspenders and waist gives you a customized look and fit.

NOT DURABLE - AVOID

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Bought these ski bibs for my teenage son who is an expert skier. In a typical year he skis 40+ days. After 5 days of skiing these bibs will have several rips and cuts along the inside of the ankles where your ski boots might rub together. The fabric along the inside of the ankles is NOT DURABLE enough for a ski pant. Everything else about these bibs are perfect... but without durable fabric at the base of the legs that is up to the challenge of ski equipment, these bibs are good for nothing more than general outdoor snow pants. Helly Hanson has always made great products, but because neither Backcountry or HH will stand behind their warranty on this issue, I'll never buy from either again. If you are looking for good ski bibs, spend your money on Arc'Teryx, Marmot, Patagonia or Burton. ibs for my son who is an expert skier.

Tall and Thin Only

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I usually hover between sizes Med and Large and ordered Large in these. I have a bit of middle-aged spread but at 5'10-180, it ain't much. Despite that, the torso of these bibs was way too tight and pinched when bending even slightly...and that was with no base or mid-layer on. The legs were a smidge long, but I could have lived with those, if not for the too-tight torso. The belt loops are too high at mid-stomach, and the back panel is some sort of soft-shell material, not the burlier fabric of the rest of the bib. So, if you're rail-thin and of slightly above average height or more, these bibs would be perfect for you. If you're shorter or wider, keep looking.

Nice bibs, but not durable

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These bibs are very nice with the exception of them not lasting more than a season. After a few days of skiing these bibs will have several small rips and cuts along the inside of the ankles where your ski boots might rub together. If they can solve this, they would be perfect.

FIT AND FUNCTION

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I got these after the season so they have not been testing on the hill yet but I was thrilled with the fit, look and overall design of these. I am 6'5 so I struggle to find pants that fit in length. I was worried a bib would cause a problem but some other reviews said they were good for tall people - they are ! Great adjustment points and the main zipper goes from your chest to where you fly would be - so no awkward bathroom breaks on the mountain. Great design, awesome look! *Note they are a shell, no insulation (I like that best - just pointing it out) . I would recommend!

HH does it again

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Great bibs for a great price - haven't ridden these at the resort yet, but they are great for backcountry tours. The leg cuffs are a bit tight for snowboarding boots - but it fits. The leg vents are perfect. The fabric seems durable yet flexible and soft. I'm 5'11 and 185 lbs and the medium fits snuggly (but not overly so) - if you prefer the relaxed fit - go a size up.
