Helly HansenFernie Jacket - Men's

The only jacket you need this season.

Ready for whatever winter throws at you, the Helly Hansen Men's Fernie Jacket is built to perform from the first run of the season to the last. Premium weatherproofing, low-profile insulation, and plenty of shred-specific features ensure that you won't need to think twice about what jacket to wear when you wake up.

The Helly Tech Performance fabric shields you from heavy snow and roaring wind without breaking a sweat, yet is still breathable to help you stay comfortable when you're in the middle of a leg-burning run. Fully taped seams prevent moisture from slipping in through the cracks, and a DWR finish adds a bit of extra water-repellency. PrimaLoft Black insulation keeps you warm without weighing you down or restricting movement.

A snap-out powder skirt prevents snow from getting in your jacket when you find yourself in waist-deep powder, while zippered underarm vents let you shed excess heat on warmer days. You can also link the Fernie up to your Helly Hansen pants with the Fusion system to create the ultimate snow-proof barrier. The Fernie also has multiple pockets to keep you organized, including a ski pass pocket that helps you get through the lift line with ease and an internal pocket to secure your smartphone.

Just OK.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

To say that I have a lot of ski/outdoor jackets might be an understatement. Having ski raced, ski coached, patrolled, winter backpacked, etc over several years has provided me with an array of winter gear. That said, many jackets were team or resort issued from various manufacturers. I can always point to two or three jackets that really hit the mark, unfortunately this HH jacket is just off.
I won't get into fit too much as that is very personal but at 5'9

So warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Xl

Helly Hansen has done it again with another awesome jacket. Ive only been able to use it twice this year due to the lacking start of winter in Utah and it not being cold enough to need this jacket. But when it has been cold enough the jacket provides all the warmth i need with just a baselayer underneath. Not sure if i bought a size too big or if it runs large. But it does have a bit of a loose fit on me.

Great jacket

    Awesome jacket with perfect insulation!

    Great jacket

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

Bought this for my dad as a gift. He loves this jacket. He says it is warm, but on warm days, it gas the underarm zips and he doesn't overheat. Great color, and solid. He has taken it in some strong storms, and it stays dry, and keeps the wind out.

    Fernie #2

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

Finally outgrew (damn beer belly) my old Fernie so I figured why mess with what works? XL fits me perfectly (6'1", 215#) and I like they got rid of some of the stupid pockets. Seriously, my old one had pockets everywhere. My only real complaint; I wish the lower pockets were side-access and fleece lined. I don't need the handwarmer function on the hill but it's a nice option for around town. Taking this for a week in Vail and will update with any observations after the fact.

    Awesome Fermie

    • Fit: True to size

Size and fit is as described. The weight seems perfect for boarding which I have not had a chance to do but it seems well suited for it. HH quality is second to none.
